Is there a way to purchase prints off Getty? I found a picture I'd like but it doesn't look as if there is a way to simply buy a print...you have to purchase rights to the print?? If I purchase rights to a photo does that allow me access to a high def version?? Anyone know how to navigate through and purchase a high def print off the site??? any help would be greatly appreciated...I'm in the process of photomatching a stick and may have found a photo...but Getty's preview images aren't clear enough....If I purchase the image will it be of much better quality??

You have to know someone who has an account with Getty to get a print. I don't think you can just buy one and if you can I think the prices are ridiculous from what I understand. If it's a current photo try http://photostore.nhl.com/ I matched a jersey of mine and bought a photo that was on Getty there. Not sure how old they go back in the pics though.
Another option is find out who took the picture and try and by the picture directly from them. Maybe google his name and see if he freelances. If so he might sell you a print.

Not far!

I typed in "Twist" and got;

Sorry, your search for "twist" produced no results.

Did you mean: wrist ?

So I typed in Tony Twist and got;

Not just the goons that get the cold shoulder either - I typed in Gretzky... "Did you mean: Gregory ?"

So I think this is just current players.

My jersey was from 09-10 so that's probably why I had no problems. Quality is great though if you need a new picture..:)

I tried to contact the Photographer, we'll see what happens I guess. Is there any way to extract High def images off of Getty? The image I want is from 2005 so the NHL site doesn't apply. NIGHTMARE!!!

I'm having the same problem with my 92-93 Lidstrom playoff gamer. Most of the pictures I have found aren't from home games. Bought the media guide and they had a picture but it was black and white so that didn't work either. My next thing is going to a local show. Some dealers out here have older Wings photo's so I gotta hope someone has one with that jersey on it.
Maybe someone in the Philly area knows of shops with 8 x 10's of Richards from his rookie year.

I am almost certain I have finally found a photo with my stick I mentioned that I purchased last week off ebay. I now have it in hand!!! It will be up in show and tell in a few weeks...its sick!! anyway the photo in Getty:

The picture in question shows the bottom of the stick with a stamped serial number between the "XX" and his tape job.If I had a high def picture I could match it to mine as the serial number is off kilter and in the same location as my stick..also the tape job at the top of the stick has the same cut-off point along the shaft (along the right hand side the tape has a slight overhang...... is also the same as the stick in hand. I am 99% certain this is it...but would like to be definite! LOL this is ridiculous!!! I emailed the freelance photographer who took the photo. What a GOOSECHASE!!! I would like to have both for my show and tell though...ahhh its exciting trying to confirm anyway....what a hobby...what a hobby!

If you go to the nhl.com photostore you can request an image from Getty to be made available in the store.

Go to "Help" at the bottom of the home page and find the link to request a photo. Input the info and they will e-mail you to let you know when it's available.

I did this for a photo that match's my Kaberle gamer and it was available in the store about 2 weeks after I requested it. Cost about $15 with shipping to Canada for an 8x10.

No problem guys. Like Alberts said, it may be for current players only though. I've done it for Kaberle, Colaiacovo, and Ponikarovsky so I've been ok.

While Osgood is a UFA currently, he's considered "current", and that's good enough for me right now! :beer:

Got a response back that they should have it for me inside of a week. Great stuff!

EDIT: talk about timing -- Osgood announces retirement today, so just snuck in under the wire.. ;-)
