Golden Knights acquire Martinez from Kings

The Vegas Golden Knights have acquired veteran defenceman Alec Martinez from the Los Angeles Kings for two second-round picks, one in 2020 and another in 2021.

“Alec has been an important part of the organization for a number of years and was a key member of our Stanley Cup teams,” said general manager Rob Blake in a press release. “We thank Marty for everything he’s done for our organization, our fans and our community.”

The 32-year-old carries a $4-million salary cap hit for this season and next season. He’s spent his entire 11-season career with the Kings, including winning two Stanley Cups in 2012 and 2014.

The move is the third trade the Kings have made in the lead up to the NHL trade deadline on Feb. 24. On Feb. 5, the club traded goalie Jack Campbell and forward Kyle Clifford to the Toronto Maple Leafs, then on Feb. 17, the Kings sent forward Tyler Toffoli to the Vancouver Canucks.
