OK, I'm not an authority on the subject of Gretzky RC's, but there is an interesting article in the July issue of Insider's Edge.

To summarize, your Gretzky RC as pictured has a yellow print mark on Gretzky's left shoulder. As well, the bordering lines have bleeding colors.
Which means this card is industry labelled "counterfeit" or "reprint?"

Im not sure of I got your post right... But if a Gretzky rookie has a yellow dot on the shoulder, its fake? Is that what you are saying or did I completly missunderstand Your post?

After reading your post, I would agree with you - you are not an authority on the subject of Gretzky RC's.... LOL The yellow "dot" is from a dust particle on the printing plate. It was about selling candy - not cards. QC was not job #1.

The card pictured in this thread is real........

OK...allow me to clarify here.

I wasn't trying to sabotage the thread in any way, but merely point out an observation.

The scan looked like what was mentioned in the article on page 14 of the July issue, as signs of a fake. It clearly stated that one of the first things you want to look for is a yellow print mark on his shoulder. It then goes into detail about other things including color bleeds.
I do not know if these are confirmed facts or if I just mis-read this in any way. Perhaps Bruce could clarify this for us.

If I mis-read this article in any way, I apologise to Khanada and recommend members still contact him about his sales thread.

Cheers

That is not bleeding.... it is very well defined. I wish I was at the shop, I could scan a couple real ones next to a couple re-prints to show everyone the difference.

Until then, I can assure you that that pic is pic of a real Gretzky RC.

The card was mine and you could not be more off. The markings are those of a legit Gretz rc. This is also part of the first print run as the blue line is shown across the back side of the card.

Sorry to see that you have to let this card go kanadah.

Good luck with your sale. And to all members this member "kanadah" is a great member to deal with.

Cheers

Scott

Thanks for the clarification.
If so, then this Gretzky is a great deal as it looks to be in very nice condition.

All interested parties should contact the seller.

On a side note...the quad auto and Esposito are sweet cards!
Good luck with sale and another extra, extra free bump ! :)

We love it but Like Stadium Sports said they were more worried about the candy then the cards same holds true around here LOL, BTW nice cards

I have too many in my show case. Need more Orr's. Otherwise, I would start "haggling" with you. Who knows, I may look at a package deal for the ice scripts and the #18......

Heh... Well, I'm of the opinion that you can't have too many Gretzkys! :)

Anyway, I'm done with collecting so if you want to make me an offer, please do! I have tons more in the bucket to move, also.

Thanks,
James

you read it wrong,

the dot is the first thing you want to look for to identify whether the card is real. most counterfeits don't have the dot. all real versions have the dot.
