Hey everybody,
I was at a local store here today and noticed they had some McFarlanes, only had Gretzky Oilers and Kings, Brodeur w/Stanley Cup, Fedorov, Alfredsson and a bunch of mini's. I almost bought a Smyth/Messier mini pack, but for $7, decided against it. (I can get just about any full size for $5. )

Anyways, just wondering, what do the different Gretzky variations look like? Specificly the Kings one, they had about 10 of them, so I don't think there were in variants in there, but I just wanna make sure. They were $15 though, so why pay that when I can get them for $5, like I said.)

Thanks,
Wes

There is not a Gretzky 'Kings!' variant! This applies to the Brodeur as well.

As well, the Oiler variant is the opposite of what the photo on the back of the packaging is!

Hope this helps ya!

Chris and Brian,
Thanks for the help guys! :) No variants there then! :( Oh well.

Wes

BTW: Chris, that's a sweet Stajan SPX you've got for sale. Don't think I'll be able to afford it, haha, but it's awesome, hopefully you get a good price for it.

Yup,
Brian's got this one.
in 99% of cases the photo on the back is the regular, and the opposite is the chase.
Gretzky, the white jersey is the chase.
The Kings, had no chase as it was a 'specific moment in time' figure, like that's ever mattered before (see vince carter 2.)

Ahh, ok. That is really all the variant/chase figures are then, the opposite jersey? Never anything little that might slip under the radar? For some reason I though that, for example, some of the goalies some came with a water bottle and some didn't, ect. I don't know though. Just trying to prepare for the show, would love to pic up some chase figs if they were cheap or owned by somebody who didn't know much about McFarlanes. :p
I wish Beckett had a section devoted to figs and stuff, like the Baseball Becketts do. They should really include one...I'd buy it just for that.

Wes

BTW: Do you have a Smyth/Messier mini pack, Phil? Just wondering.

Don't have it no,
the 3" 'ers are overpriced IMO.
while I'm easily willing to spend 16 on a 6" fig, I still see 2 3" ones @ 10$ to be a massive ripoff,
and the fact that walmart got a second shipment of the first series and put them out for sale for 2$ I think I'm justified/right.

There are some variants like that,

If ya want to get real technical with it, Variant = unintended error/variation in the figures
Chase = intended jersey swap.

There's some chase figs that are different team jersey's (jets selanne, blues hull, red wings fedorov...etc....)

the original series 1 goalies had different kinds of water bottles, there's a whole bunch of that stuff, but most of it is pretty niche and depends on rarity/people who buy it.

There are tons of variants out there for some players. While Gretzky is only a jersey variant, they had tons of different versions for football, such as dirty (and even blood!), helmetless, and even little things like socks and glove variants.
