GST # / Tax ID?

Hi all,

If an eBay seller is charging me 15% HST on a card, am I within my right to request that he provide me with his tax #? Any idea what would be a diplomatic way to request it?

Of course you can request it. But first of all, isn't HST in Nova Scotia 13%? I charge tax on all eBay purchases and whenever asked for my tax #s, I am more than happy to provide them

Pretty much what Frank said. If he doesn't provide those, you have reasonable grounds to refuse remittance of that part of the payment.

Thanks. The HST was 15%, then dropped to 13% and then back up to 15% a couple of years ago. It's supposed to drop back down again soon....supposedly.
