OK I am going to be purchasing the entire The Walking Dead line and I can get the hardcovers and softcovers at essentially the same price.

6 hardcovers @ 12 issues each for 60 combined issues
or
10 softcovers @ 6 issues each for 60 combined issues

Now, the issue is.... hardcover looks better and will last longer... BUT its bulkier (bigger pages too) and 'tougher' to read.... softcover does not look as good and will bend/etc..... but its easier to read.

Also, the hardcover has the cover picture for each issue while the softcovers do not. The softcovers just run through as a long story.

I'm torn here. Thoughts?

Hardcover all the way....it displays nicer, especially since you could put it in a bookshelf.

BTW, how much is the whole story line gonna cost you? It's the one comic line that I'm seriously debating picking up....

I will occasionally buy hardcovers (the reason I won't is the subject of another rant...). If it's cost neutral - as in this case - go the hardcovers.

Yeah, most people are in agreement with the hardcovers. Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of displaying them nicely and how they will last longer, etc. I'm just worried I will complain (often) about how difficult it is to read them. I'm going hardcovers though because it will look great with my collection already.

Rob- Each hardcover (again, 6 of them... 1 is not out for another month or so... collects 12 issues and goes for about $20-25 each. So the 5 that are out right now should run you about $100 when alls said and done. Well worth it for this great title).

Great title, and looking forward to the series when it airs.

Anyway, I started getting the hardcovers of Walking Dead. I usually go with trades for most titles, but on a whim I picked up the first two HCs of Dead when I found them on sale. I chewed through those two (pseudo-pun intended) in an afternoon and have picked up subsequent HCs as well.

Bigger, yes, but they look nicer on a shelf. And this is a title I will keep and re-read, unlike a lot of the trades I pick up, so the sturdier construction is welcomed.

Hardcovers look much better when displayed on a shelf and usually carry a better resell value. That being said I have bought several over sized Omnibus issues and I find them way to heavy and bulky to read. They are beautiful but no practical.

I read the first 50 issues of the Walking Dead and enjoyed it enough to buy them in the LTD signed edition /300. However I lost interest around issue #40. I might try to get back into the title as it is still very popular and will likely be a movie soon.

It won't be a movie, because it's actually a TV show now!

Check out the trailer online.... Debuts October 31.

It's already been picked up for a second season and the first season hasn't even started yet!

I saw that a while ago. It will likely still be made into a movie, apparently there are a few people interested.
