Just wondering if any one else has seen the advance pricing for the ITG Ultimate. I do not know about the rest of you but for a product that was near $200.00 a pack and for common base cards #xx/45 to only be $10.00 seems a bit on the ridiculous side. I totally understand this thought that everyone wants to use, that it is only a guide. Or the true value is the bay. But when this publication is the biggest influence on this hobby. Than what it prints have major ranaifications on the hobby. It does not matter that a few collectors pay no mind to it. The truth of the matter is that the majority of them do. I know that this should make it easier for me to finish off my set that I have started. Just my thoughts on this. It seems that for some reason Beckett has been well off on values as compared to their normal way of pricing. Maybe they have decided to set in from of the old computer and set their prices only from ebay sales. Thanks, Winston.

Looking at completed auctions on ebay, for just a quick snapshot, the majority of guys that I would consider commons are finishing under $10 CDN, and most auctions with higher starting bids aren't seeing any action. With all the base sets being numbered so low, there isn't a huge pool of data to work from, that might be why these cards are closer to ebay prices than some others.

Its low for what the packs sell for, but it seems to be pretty close to what the market is paying.

I agree with that.It usually has been the practice of the guide to be much higher.I like the idea of it being on par.But my fear has always been that collectors will now want to buy for 25-50% of guide the same as they have always expected to do.If this is the case than the will really hurt the hobby. With the price guide now being a more true reflection than I hope people will see it more as a true value and will be willing to pay the price. But I do not see that happening.
The prices do appear to be what they are selling for.But I find that I have been paying more for the cards than the guide price if you factor in shipping.
A common card at $6.00 with $8.00 postage is $4.00 over guide.Time to think more about going to the shows and doing the buying there.Thanks,Winston.

The main thing you rae missing is that the cards are made by ITG. If they were ud beckett would ere on the high side and give them a 25 dollare booking. This is just my opinion but I see it as true.

I think that it is about time beckett is starting to price cards at their true values. If a card sells for ten dollars then that should be its high book value. You shouldn't artificially inflate the book value to $25 when in reality the card is only worth $10. Beckett does this a lot more with high end sets to falsely lure the collector into thinking they have a decent card when the truth is the resale value is a mere fraction of the high book value. Do they do this to help justify the insane prices of the packs? When was the last time you saw a common Lemieux jersey sell for $30? For some reason that's what most book at.

In Beckett's defense (ugh this hurts to say this) this is what the price guide reflects. So if you're disappointed with anything it should be the public's reaction to this set, not Beckett's pricing.

On a side note - I see that you're building the set right now. So wouldn't you be *pleased* that the singles came out low in the guide?

I think this statement is part of the problem with the hobby today. Desperate dealers letting the buyers dictate pricing. If you think your singles are worth $25 then ask that price on them. There are only so many to go around, and if they can't find them on ebay, then they'll come back to you and pay your price. Patience. In the past I've stayed firm on a price for nice pieces and, in the end, I usually will get pretty close to my asking price.

I am very happy that the price is low.It should help me finish it off without paying an arm and a leg.I guess I would just never have gave it a thought that cards from such an exspensive product could possiblely list for so little.
Great for the collector but not so good for those dealers who still open a lot for their customers. You are correct about patience.I rarely sell or even trade things until I feel the market has adjusted to what I think is a fair value.eg;the Cup I will hold on to my rookies until they are reach a certain level.I will keep my wax for at least a year.I still believe that it is headed to the same place Exquisite Basketball is and that is high.Thanks,Winston.
