i sold a high end card last thursday for 300$ the buyer paid for expresspost, cost me 18$ from montreal to bc, they guarannteed 2 business days so it was suppoed to be delivered on the 8.

on monday i check the status, it still says that the package has been accepted at the montreal post office, i opened a file at canada post so they could looked into it, now late last night the package shows up in winnipeg , and now this afternnon it finnaly ends up in bc, and should be delivered today, two days after it was supposed to.

according to their webiste i should be entittle to a refund of the postage fees, have any of you ever done this?

Years ago, I send a package to BAP/ITG for a redemption (full size Hejduk(?) auto jersey) and I sent it registered (8 days, 6 business days) prior to the deadline and it went on a tour of Eastern Canada before being delivered 3 weeks late. (4 weeks after it was sent) It was my understanding the the contract between BAP and the NHL(PA) was firm and despite arriving late, they weren't able to honour the late arrival. [Disappointing but understandable]

Needless to say, asking Canada Post for a refund of the postage + registration etc was attempted and I was rebuffed at every attempt (2 or 3 phone calls and a letter) and for the $18 or whatever it was, it wasn't worth it to try anything else.

JonX, you should be able to get a refund. With Xpresspost shipping they guarantee a delivery date and if the package doesn`t arrive then you can put in a claim and your money will be refunded. I go through my receipts at the end of every month to check each package that has a tracking number.

Here is the link to ask for a refund: http://www.canadapost.ca/cpo/mc/personal/support/helpcentre/tracking/late_delivery.jsf#ap

Scroll to the bottom under What Can You do and then click on contact us online to request a postage refund. From there just follow the steps.

Hope this helps!!

Yes they will.Happened to me just back a few months. It was very easy to get the refund. They sent a check out in the mail.Had it within a couple weeks.Good luck.

I used to buy wax from Wayne's in Edmonton. Despite the fact that we were paying for next-day delivery and that Wayne was consistently meeting the cutoff times, they failed to deliver. He took them to task and I enjoyed free shipping for quite some time as a result.

Basically, if you purchase any product with a guaranteed delivery time - e.g. Expresspost - and they fail to meet it for anything other than exceptional reasons (e.g. six feet of snow in 12 hours), go get your refund. Something like Registered Mail, while often quite speedy, has no such guarantees.

a friend of mine used to sell some high end things on ebay back in the early-mid 2000s and he sent everything xpresspost... the problem (for canadapost) was that they rarely hit the delivery date & he was getting the service for free in the end :)
