Hey guys,

I'm seeking help from members in those two areas. I'm going to the Jackets game next Monday and Sabres game next Tuesday and I'm wondering if there are any spots I should hit before/after the games and also things to do in those cities? I found some cheap tickets on stubhub for both games so it is not a problem on that side.

Looking forward to any insight!

For Buffalo, there are quite a few restaurant / bars right near the arena now. 716 is at Harborcenter attached next door owned by the Sabres and is great but may be super busy on game night. For a couple of pregame beers we love Cobblestone which has been around for awhile now, maybe half a block east of the arena. Pearl Street is another good one for dinner and drinks, that one is a few blocks walk but it will be all hockey fans before the game. If you are looking for card stores, Dave and Adams have a super store in the suburbs you might want to check out.

Hope that helps!

I would personally choose Cobblestone over Pearl Street - I still go to Pearl Street sometimes for the atmosphere, but in terms of food I think it's overrated.

I'm also a big fan of 716, but it will be packed on game night. My daughter has a tournament at the HarborCenter next weekend, I'll definitely be spending some time with food and beer.

I do not live in either city, but I've been to games in both those places on more than one occasion.

Anchor Bar, in Buffalo, is my favorite place to go (sometimes before, sometimes after) a game there. Home of the original Buffalo Wing. Food is great there, prices are fair, beer isn't too expensive.

In Columbus - if you want to enjoy the nightlife after the game, stay somewhere near the arena..... you won't need to go anywhere else. The whole area is filled with places to go afterwards. I don't have an specific recommendation, but I'm sure you'll find something around the arena you like.

I was in Buffalo in march for a concert so the sabres were out of town so this is not at all sports related but would highly recommend Duffs. Amazing restaurant the best wings i have ever eaten. I will also mention that talking to the locals about where to go for wings the same two places were mentioned Anchor Bar and Duffs. I can't speak about Anchor Bar as i advent been but Duffs was incredible

Being from the Buffalo suburbs, I absolutely cannot argue with any of the above suggestions.

Will heap on for checking out Dave & Adams Superstore in Clarence NY. Pretty much has something for anyone. Sportscards, gaming, apparel, toys, autographed and game used items. Also, there are several good resturants in the area, including locations of both Anchor Bar and Duffs (although nothing beats the ambiance of the original locations).

Depending on where you're staying, there are some great shopping / stuff to do. If you are staying downtown, you could check out Canalside Buffalo -https://www.canalsidebuffalo.com/

If you're staying closer to Buffalo Niagara International, there some decent shopping / eats in and around the Walden Galleria.

Thanks to everybody for the advice!

In Columbus I ended up going to JJ before the game and R Bar after the game. The whole area close to the arena is really pretty. It was the 12th different rink I've visited and definitely the best looking one. Everything in there looks neat, you can see the ice well from everywhere, I'll definitely swing by again if I'm in the area.

I went to the Anchor Bar in Buffalo and I had by far the best chicken wings I ever had! I would definitely recommend this place. As far as the rink goes, major downgrade from Nationwide Arena, looks bleh and the Sabres got shut out by the Devils so the game was also bleh.

Thanks again to everybody who responded

I have to agree with you, our arena doesn't compare much to other arena's around the league. I've only been to Columbus, Chicago, and now New Jersey, but all of them have been nicer than ours here in Buffalo. However, the area around our arena (Canalside/Harborcenter) has really become something awesome

And I prefer Duff's

Checking out the 716 bar is a must! Such a cool bar they built right near the arena. They even have goal lights around the bar for when the sabres score the whole place lights up. Plus the bar top is thick shaved glass with a blue light under neath which looks like ice. So cool!!
