Henrik Zetterbergs career over

Back-injury related, but I'm guessing the fact that his salary was scheduled to drop in half this year also had something to do with it.

Perhaps you should read some of the articles.

Arthritis inflicted back for the past three years...... 0 games missed.
(Yep 82/83 all three years).

So bad that after December of last year he could no longer stand the pain to practice. The last surgeon in NY this past week suggested that one more devastating hit would mean major back surgery as well as lifetime difficulty.

I'm sure I speak for everyone that follows or is in the Red Wing organization that we are a better team with him on the ice, even at the end of last year.
First in minutes played for forwards and second on the team in points.

We'll miss you Hank!!!!!!:wings:

I have no doubt that the back injury is real. He's played 15 NHL seasons, it's a punishing career. He was a fantastic player.

I also have no doubt that, like Hossa, he never intended to play the whole contract. If it wasn't a back issue (or a skin condition) he'd have found another reason to hang 'em up.

It also doesn't help that the entire front office of the Red Wings organization right now is a complete dumpster fire. They have no idea how to deal with the fact that they missed the playoffs for the first time is decades. They are floundering, and have for a good many years.

Great career by Hank. Now the Wings just need to move on and figure itself out; if a rebuild is necessary, then do it. Stop wasting the prime years of many young stars.
