I was thinking about starting a new collection with first auto (I think it is the 91/92 UD Hull Heroes), first acetate set, first GU set, serial #, etc. Has anyone done anything like this? Do you have any other suggestions of “firsts” for me?

What about the 96/97 UD first offering of game jerseys!? Top 2 of my favorite sets for looks and to build :)

Cheers,
Greg

I feel like the first time I saw acetate was maybe the 94-95 Leaf Phenoms set and then the Fleer Ultra "Clear The Ice" inserts in 95-96?

I am sure something preceded that I can't think of right now?

First hockey set: 1910 C56
First NHL hockey set: 1923 Paterson (with the first short printed card, that of Bert Corbeau)
First O Pee Chee set: 1933
First Parkhurst set: 1951
First Topps set: 1954
First UD set: 1990
First jersey card set: 1996 UDGJ (as mentioned above)
First jersey numbered rookie set: 2001 Titanium
First rookie auto patch set: 2002 SP FWAP

Etc

Acetates made an appearance with Classic back in 1991 or 1992. Was that not the first for that? I remember those going for big bucks back in the day.

I want to say the first set with serial #'d rookie cards was 1998-99 SP Authentic.

The first actual serial #'d cards were earlier. I think the 1993-94 Donruss Elite inserts were serial numbered (out of 10,000!). Not sure if there would have been something before those.

Yeah, they did, but I don't count that non-mainstream ****e. Haha

And yes, those old "limited" Classic issues with "only" 10,000 copies fetching bonkers bucks! I remember the Shaq autos going CRAY!
