I have to sell on this one.
Yeah one can argue that there has not been real good fan support but if you sell off the team is that going to get more fans to come to the game? If you trade off any chance of winning that certainly won't motivate the fans to come out to the games. Another reason is I don't buy this is that if the Marlins are trying to get younger then why would you trade and let go two of your younger and best pitchers in Josh Beckett and A.J. Burnett, and players in their prime Mike Lowell, Luis Castillo, and Carlos Delgado. As far as I can ever remember in almost ever case a team that going to be sold will drop their payroll I have heard nothing to suggest that Jeffrey Loria is thinking of selling the team. Another point I don't buy this is that the Marlins have been through two times before, right after the 1997 Championship the team was taken apart, and then again right before Jeffrey Loria the current owner was given the team by Major League baseball for his franchise in Montreal. The fans are now being asked to go through a third rebuilding in less then ten years. If the Marlins ownership wants me to buy this they should pack up and move, the fans are saying we are not going to support you then move the team as it is to a new town. Finally I don't buy this for the reason stock pilling rookies is a risky business, the pay-offs can be great but also can set a franchise back if those trades don't work out. Henley Ramirez was rated as one of the Red Sox top players in their system but how many people Ruben Rivera playing for the Padres, or Drew Henson playing for the Reds both huge prospects that never panned out. Having said all this I have to say as frustrating as it is to follow my team being a Marlins fan is like riding the world's biggest roller coaster, championships in 97 and 03, with down years before in between and after. There are some pieces to build around in Miguel Cabrera but if he is traded then I would say the Marlins are done. Finally my biggest point as to why I don't buy this is why would the ownership and GM less then a year ago go out and make a huge free agent signing in Carlos Delgado? It does not add up if you ask me and now less then a year later ownership decides hey lets trade away any chance of winning!!! I just don't buy the Marlins concept of selling off and they won't be able to get me to buy into it. Who is next Dontrell Willis, Miguel Cabrera, or Juan Pierre?
