NEW PIECE ALERT!

We go back nearly 50 years for this stunning "Piece of History" which joins the vaults of Heroes of the Crease. This is the 234th unique NHL goalie in our museum.

What you are looking at right now is a 1975 NHL All-Star Game game worn jersey utilized by Gary "Axe" Smith (aka "Suitcase") on January 21, 1975 vs the Wales Conference. In the game, Smith formed a tandem with Bernie Parent and he stopped 13 of 17 shots that he faced in 30 minutes of action. It is NOT for sale, trade, or donation.

In his NHL career, Gary Smith appeared in 532 regular season games, going 174-255-74 with 26 shutouts, 8 assists, a 3.39GAA, and a 0.894% save average. In 20 playoff games, he went 5-13 with 1 shutout, a 3.23GAA, and a 0.902% save average.

Among his career accolades/records include winning the Memorial Cup (1964), winning the AHL Calder Cup Championship (1966), holding the NHL record for most losses in a season (1971), winning the Vezina Trophy (1972), appearing in the Stanley Cup Final (1973), appearing in the NHL All-Star Game (1975), winning the CHL Championship (1978), winning the WHA Championship (1979), allowing the final ever goal in WHA history (1979), and playing in the first ever NHL game for the Winnipeg Jets franchise (1979).

Great jersey! I look forward to seeing it at the next Edmonton Expo. I really enjoyed the write up about the accolades and learned some hockey history. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the comments everyone! The pics really don't do it justice, the orange and black design of the old all-star gamers simply cannot be beat.
