Hello, HI crew.

Thinking of coming down to see my Mom (in Scarborough) in the fall and timing it to coincide with Fall Expo. I try to come down once a year or so, and with Dad passing away last year, I think Mom will need me moreso than ever.

Alot of you that recognize my forum name know I am only collecting 2002-03 ITG Parkhurst Retro, 2003-04 ITG Action, and 2002-03 BAP First Edition - NOTHING ELSE. Hoped that I could find some more singles from guys that don't list low-end stuff on eBay, their web sites, etc.

With the above in mind, I figured I could buy a single "day pass" and do the show in 6+ hours? My vision would be to essentially have a duotang or 1" binder with colour scan printouts of "sample cards" from each set, and ask each dealer if they think they have any on hand at the show. This would include hobby boxes for the three products as well.

I also considering handing out contact/business cards referencing the three sets and my contact info, so they might reach out to me in the future should anything turn up after they and I go our separate ways.

Am I naive in how I am picturing this? Ultimately, I want to make a bunch of contacts, with the goal of adding to my three p.c. hoarding situations. Zero interest in the autograph guests, corporate booths, etc., Just want to network with dealers and collectors, and find some more cards hiding in dealer boxes. But hoping to avoid an hour at a given table if the dealer "knows" he doesn't have anything from my hit lists.

Thoughts?

I could be very wrong as I haven't been to Expo in a few years, but my initial thoughts would be:

- Most vendors likely don't have cards from those sets because they are older sets and not higher-end/"wow" kind of cards
- If they do have the cards, they are probably in an unorganized box
- As nice as it would be, most vendors probably won't go searching for these cards later to be contacting you

Your collection is awesome and it's always cool to see new additions, but just from personal experience, I'm not certain that Expo will be a place where you'll find a lot of success.

I spent most of the weekend searching through the unorganized boxes of singles that dealers have and I specifically had in my mind cards from your sets which I figured if I saw would be fairly cheap to pick up and I could pass on to you. I didn’t find a single one. I think the idea of explaining to dealers what you’re looking for and handing out a business card with your contact info and what you’re looking for would be your best bet. Especially if you only are there for one day.

I agree with this 100%. It is unlikely you will see any cards from those sets in display cases or at all. If you do it will be like the bolded statement above.

I also spent 5 hours value box digging and do not recall anything specific from those sets but there is a lot of variety in them so it is possible it was overlooked.

Thank you for the HONEST and candid feedback so far. Yes, I honestly think my efforts may be futile in that particular time and place.

Continued thanks to those on here who have connected me with p.c. cards. Perhaps Toronto is better to maximize time with Mom and save the card relic hunting for online and more localized (Winnipeg) efforts. :)

I just browse and not expect to find anything for my collection. If I stumble across an Enroth card, it's usually been something I have already so I find it funny to find one at the Expo. It's not as likely as years ago, but that's okay.

Just keep the expectations low and have fun browsing those dollar bins.

I spent all day Saturday at the show and was pleasantly surprised to find a nathan horton 1/1 in a display case, so you who knows what you would find.
