Was just reading some comments on to thread

Currently Are We At The Lowest Point In The Hobby?

Got me thinking about this years 2012-13 Between the Pipes. I haven't followed much of the hockey card market, though is their a lot of hype over this product? And are you planning on buying boxes or cases to try and make some $ off of?
I realize that it doesn't come out till the 19th.

I loved opening a case of last years 2011-12 Between the Pipes. Lots of really nice stuff. And fun to break.

What are your thoughts?

Between the Pipes will do just fine in both sales as a product itself as well as a secondary market product for the first couple of weeks.

There are a lot of levels of collectors that get into BTP. There are player collectors, goalie collectors, vintage collectors, team collectors, ITG collectors, etc. The list goes on and on. A lot of people say that an ITG 1/1 is worthless, but I have never had difficulty selling any of them that I have pulled and for great money, as well.

I myself am getting a case and am also on the prowl for one of the many Irbe cards hidden within it.

btp is one of my all time best box breaks period. I have a lot of fun with it.
I started a few years back and haven't had a bad box yet.

BTP is my favorite set. You're never going to hit an insane RPA that you'll be able to flip for $1000+, but there are very few bad boxes. It's regular to get back 2/3-3/4 of the box price, which I'll match up to every Panini set and most UD sets any day.

It's also great because many goalies don't get many (or ANY) cards outside of BTP. I'm bummed that may main PC guy Tom Barrasso only has 2 cards, but Ron Tugnutt is featured several times. Can't tell you the last time he had cards produced.

I look forward to cracking a few boxes. Wanted to blast a case, but the better half wouldn't like that.

BTP was my favorite too until Marty Brodeur was dropped out. I'll bust a couple this year too but would have opened a case or two if there was a possibility to pull something nice for my PC.

Love the vintage GU stuff too.

Interesting. Why was he dropped out?

No it's actually 4 cards, you forgot the gold ones (thanks heavens for the /10 version of goldies!) but I'm quite sure that ITG will use that darn pic of him as usually....

Yes BTP is no doubt among those best series to breaking boxes with, even if I'll never breaking boxes anympre in my life after my horrible experience of wasting $1500 for 6 boxes of XXXXX which I got less than 30-35% in return, I never had any luck with packs/boxes....

I think his contract just ended with ITG and hasn't signed a new one since. What will the Decades 90's be without Brodeur?

Yeah, that would be strange. Hopefully he'll resign. On a side note, really looking forward to Decades 90's!

I did a case of last year's BTP, probably won't do that again. I think I got very good bang for my buck (did it @ the Expo, got the redemptions with it too) but just not looking to sink that much money into another release at this time. Still working on sets from last year's though (need those SP'd autos, lol).

I'm already signed up for a group break of this year's set, and will most likely do a couple of boxes at the Expo too. It's a great release every year. I expect this season will be no different.

Since 08-09 (which was an amazing release of BTP) it has been a very average product. Not good, not bad...just is. I'll do a box or two and that will be it.

Between the Pipes is a staple. It will always do well. We're going to be doing live BTP Pack Wars Thursday night. If interested check out the thread in our Group Break section!

Believe me, it was not our choice to leave Martin Brodeur out of this product.

In my opinion he is the best or one of the best goalies to ever have played the position.

Seems like pressure from the NHLPA convinced him to not re-sign with us. Hopefully, when he retires, we will get him pack in our products.

He is missed, we had a 10 year relationship that I enjoyed. Remember when one of my staff members played ball hockey with him on his driveway during a signing.

But, BTP will live on and there were a lot of other great goalies in the 90s for our Decades product.

The legitimacy and appealing look of the GU helps the resale of these. I have never been stuck with a stack of $1.00 Game-used cards that may not have been game-used. They can always be flipped for a few dollars or more. While the Youg Stars autos can be tough to move, the Stars, Greats, Duals, vintage, etc autos are always movers. There is always a market for the Masks, and the inserts are a nice bonus. Hell, you can even expect to get 20-30 cents a piece back for your bloody decoys!!

One thing is for sure, you'll always have fun breaking the box, and will never get stuck with anything other than the base, and for a set builder like myself, even THAT'S a win!!

I am really looking forward to this. In a GB on another forum, in a pack wars on here and plans to break a case with a buddy on here. I will likely also break some boxes at my LCS and maybe one or two at the expo.

So happy this product is still around, I believe it was 08/09 that I was told it was going to be the last year for the product but it is still going strong and I am very happy about that.

Me, I would love this... depending on how many Oilers got mixed in (there's been a few over the years). Off all the emergency backups they've used though, a couple do have cards / autos in other ITG products - just not as Oilers (Torrie Jung, John Garrett).

I don't know how the last couple of these went over with collectors in general....... but while I'd be thrilled with a Floyd Whitney, Nathan Deobald, or Aarron Sochoran autograph.... I can't imagine the overall interest would be there from the general public.

There was one done last year, of the guy in Minnesota (his name escapes me at this point). I've got a copy of the card, its part of my set, I think its kinda cool - but not something I got overly excited about pulling..... and I would wonder how others feel about these sorts?

They're neat cards, definetly unique, and I applaud ITG for trying something a little different. Just don't know how much interest there really is??

What about a One game wonder set, for goalies who dressed as an emergency back up for teams? Could be fun insert or auto set
