Hiya everyone,

I am pretty sure this has been discussed before but its been a conundrum for me recently.

I am a player collector and for the most part he is a common..lol

Constantly I find rare cards like High Gloss #/10 for very reasonable prices. In fact I tend to pick up many cards that are limited if the price is right, even if its a double, triple or quad..lol

Soooo... when is enough? How many freakin copies do I need..lol. Logically I know I need just one. But reality is I want them all.

Its a constant battle, and I am convinced its collectors like me that drive the market prices up..lol

Oh wells,

Chance

I've done the same thing with one of my PC players. I have 8 copies of one card, 6 of another, 4 of another. I've picked them all up for dirt cheap. I'd rather pick up multiple copies with the hope of using them for IP autos. If its cheap, go for it.

im the same way, if its a rare card for cloutier and i see it, i buy it

my closest to a "Quincy" is 8/10 cards for one card, and 7/10 for another. i also have 2 cards from this years BTP where i have 3/5

there is never enough if the price is decent. i always feel like im wasting my money when i buy multiples like this, but i enjoy it so no harm, no foul

For me I never have enough. If the price is right I buy.But I believe that you are right. If collectors like us only bought one copy of our common player there would be no reason for their cards to be still listed as anything for than a common.I say collect who you want and as many of him as you want.If the price is right than go for it.

lol.. I have the same problem. I collect any and all Wendel Clark cards I can find. I have 3 of the 6 priority signings of his a few years back. I know where the other 3 are and would LOVE to have them all. I take it to the next level but I enjoy it. It's fun for me. so as long as you are having fun, keep at it.

Being on a limited budget, I am always of the opinion that one is always enough. Every duplicate card I spend my money on is that much more of a strong financial ability to purchase the really tough cards, 1/1's, etc. I just see no point in owning all of a specific card unless it's a 1/1. If you're buying a card again to get the jersey numbered version, or to upgrade a jersey/patch swatch or something, sure, but why keep the lesser card? There are other collectors out there, so why not share the wealth? I just pulled a duplicate card of one that is currently in my PC, and can't wait to hopefully trade it for another similar card that I actually need That's just my two cents, being that everyone else has the opposite mindset. I can see where they're coming from, but walk a different path I guess. To each his own! Cheers!

Wow...
I was seriously sure that I was quite kooky to have 11 of 25 with 10-11 Dominion Number with my main PC-player, but it appears that many does have an almost complete run of one specific player with low-printed parallel set....like 7 or 8 of a /10 set of a non memorabilia card is just amazing and ineed shows theirs love for the player.

I only hoard memorabilia cards with different colors/pieces of my PC-players...

They are just so gorgeous, how could I not keep buying them specially when I can get them for 100 give or take ten dollars. I can't afford a Cup RC /99 so I picked up a few of the next best thing. Then again they are /99 not /10. Most I've owned of a print run that low is 2/10, I don't really buy doubles unless I really like the card.

I've got 2 each of the odelein red parallel jersey cards /10 from itg enforcers. Not exactly a hoard but when I can get them for $10-15 each & I'm not coming up short for my rent $ I figure why not?

For my Sedin collection, I generally only go for one of every card as that's enough to keep me busy - the only exceptions are Quad Diamond RC's and nameplate cards (I've got 4 out of 5 SPGU By The Letter cards from both years Daniel Sedin was included in the set, would love to find the last piece of the puzzles).

I will pick up mulitples of anything with nice patch if the price is right. If you ever saw my Kovalchuk Certified collection (that's where I allow myself to hoard) you'd know I also have a problem.

My priority is definitely set for something not in the collection vs. something I already have, but like most others here, if the price is right I will gladly snap up another copy or two. If I get to the point where I have somehow acquired 10-15% of a print run, I then make a decision as to whether I like the card enough to concentrate on getting more - in which case I increase the price I'm willing to pay (but never to the point of paying crazy $$ amounts).

I picked multiples of cards of M-A Pouliot over the years. I have at least 5 copies of his SPx and his Cup RCs.

For Gino Odjick, whenever I see something limited of him, I go for it, even if I already have a copy.

I never quite understood the need to chase every card of a single player, let alone multiples of each printing. Especially once the quest became quixotic with the release of so many variants and the existence of 1/1's. Now I prefer to have a few nice cards of certain players and can live without the high $ issues. My personal challenge is building a few sets each year.

I use display cases and wall hangings to share my collection with friends and enjoy those items that have a story all their own. all those cards that I own, sitting in shoeboxes, out of sight really don't serve much of a purpose.

Sometimes I feel as though card companies play upon our weaknesses whether it be an addiction to busting wax or obsessive/compulsive behavior or whatever else.

LOL - ya think? That's what the business is all about now...I feel like a smoker or, at times, a crack addict. Gotta get that next hit!
