Wasn't sure this belonged in the White Envelope Thread, although it was basically shipped in an oversized white envelope. I'm more perplexed by the amount of shipping I paid versus the service it was sent as. Can any Canada Post experts give me the approximate amount this eBay seller paid to send this package. I paid $16 for tracking, which he gave me a number link, but it never actually worked, although it did take me to the Canada Post Tracking site. My calculations based on size (5in by 9in paper envelope) weight (.453kg) and "Surface Small Packet", from H7L 1K1 to 92126, I'm thinking he paid about $8.50. Dude couldn't even send it Air Mail for less than $2 more. Is there anything else I'm missing here that would justify him charging me almost double what he actually paid. Why does CP not show the amount on the shipping slip? Is there anyway to track this back to find out for sure?

Worst part is I won another card from the same dude a week later and paid $16 again for tracked shipping in a bubble mailer. Wish the first one had arrived sooner.

I suppose I can try and report him to eBay, or neg him for overcharging, unless he offers a refund of some kind.

Anyways, rant over for the moment.

I sent an 8X10 bubble mailer from Toronto to California insured, and tracked, and it was $31 and change, so I don't think $16 is far off for that. Expresspost from Ontario to Alberta is $15ish. Prices have increased drastically over the past year. This guy may be out a couple bucks, but he's not getting rich of you. Blame Canada Post for the rediculous prices.

There's a mile of difference between a tracked 8x10 bubbler or Expresspost and a surface small packet (No tracking available for this service so the tracking he sent the OP is BS). $8.52 plus tax is what I paid for a very similar package to ship to a location a state away from the OP.

Maybe you're right, I was going on what he said about it being a tracked small package.

I was told there would be tracking, but the number I was given didn't show any kind of tracking and I don't see any kind of tracking number or bar code on the package that could be scanned for tracking purposes.

That was basically my question, where's the tracking number if I paid for tracking?

I'm pretty sure I got hosed.

Message him, and ask him for it, or a scan of the receipt! If he ignores you, or makes up excuses, file with ebay for excessive shipping charges. I did find out that Darren is in fact correct when he said they donnot have tracking on these, but it does come with $100 insurance from what I read. Could you try emailing, or calling Canada Post, and asking them? If you have the Zip code from where it was sent, and the exact weight they should be able to tell you a quote.

I just entered your info into the Canada Post site, and the quote I got for that size, and weight from that Postal Code to yours is $8.52 for surface. I would definitely contact him, and ask for some money back. Charging you double the actual cost would be considered excessive shipping charges in my opinion. You definitely have a case to file with ebay.

Sorry to hear if you were if fact double charged...Charging the typical 4.00 for a bubble envelope when the shipping is under 2.00...but that is pretty bad. I hope the seller works with you to make it more fair.

If he did some kind of tracking it is probably registered mail. They automatically charge 12.95 to 14 bucks, then they add the 3 dollars on top. The cheapest i have bought registered to Canada is usually $15-16 bucks, and the was on one card. The post office said if it is a pwe, or bubblemailer..the registered mail price is the same.
