Not sure how I got down this rabbit hole but saw a pic of the Luongo deep in the crease from 10-11 on ebay. Saw that all the goalies on the Canucks card are all moved on. So I looked at the entire checklist and it's a little mind blowing. I guess the take home point, you can never have too many goalie prospects (Never trade Rask!!!!!)

Here's a weird point. Here is a list of goalies that were not starters at the time who were in the system and after 7 years are the teams starter:

STL - Jake Allen
WASH - Brayden Holtby

Also an observation, the Caps had 4 good goalies in the system at the time and all 4 are playing roles in the NHL today!!

Go ahead! Just killing time at work. I initially wanted to post each guys story, but it would take too much time! That's for a Monday morning!!!!
 
The number of guys out of the league is insane. There are only 62 jobs in the NHL, and this really shows why you should never give up on a prospect. I guess it's the same argument for not drafting a goalie in the first round! Maybe that could be a new post. Last 15 years of goalie's drafted in the first that made an impact

2010-11 Backed up Eddie Lack in Manitoba - neither called up as Luongo/Schneider didn't have any injuries.

source - I invested in Weiman RCs at the time just in case.
(and Matt Climie around the same time)

This reminds me about how in the early portion of their careers, Neuvirth was considered to have a higher ceiling than Holtby. Certainly interesting how things change over time!
 
You might say some of these clubs weren't as "deep in the crease" as originally projected.

Awesome post, thanks for sharing the info. Brings me back to the post on 600 goals bs 400 wins. This thread is definitely fuel to how tough it is in the NHL for a goalie to achieve 400 wins.

Well unfortunately for Neuvirth, and Varlamov for that matter, injuries seriously derailed their careers, especially early on. Varlamov seems to have righted that train for the most part in Colorado, but Neuvirth still seems to have issues to this day.

Good point! Sticking in the NHL long-term is tough for a goalie. So little spots and it's hard to get enough games in to potentially reach the 400 Win milestone.
