Made an offer on a very low numbered card a few weeks ago. Seller countered and before I even saw the counter-offer, the seller had emailed me saying he could send me the card for even less with insured shipping. I guess me not checking my emails for a few hours had him thinking I wasn't interested.

I replied the next morning before work, paid for the card after and then started to check the mail everyday. :D The card showed up in regular mail, no insurance and a lot cheaper postage on the mailer than his auction quoted. Also he put the card in a one touch that wasn't really deep enough for the card. At first glance the card looks fine but I have to double check it to be 100% sure.

If the card is fine then I feel no negative is warranted but how would you handle leaving a response? I'm kinda choked his didn't send the card insured like promised and the card was shoved into the wrong size one touch cause this IS a high end card after all. I've never really run into an ebay problem that wasn't an easy "give me a refund" problem as a buyer or seller so I don't know what I SHOULD do.

Any suggestions?

I'd say that if the card is fine, all is well. You got a better deal than expected and even though the shipping wasn't insured, if it's undamaged I don't think the scenario would warrant anything more than a quick email wondering about the shipping.

If the card is fine, I personally would choose not leaving a feedback at all and I probably wouldn't buy from the seller again just in case I wouldn't be that lucky next time.

well, in theory he self insured it. If it arrived damaged, you have the recourse of a paypal claim for item not recieved in the condition it was sold as, or whatever it is, lol. the insurance thing is kind of a waste anyway, because it would cover his loss, and he is required to cover your loss. Maybe he charges a premium to self insure. if the cards fine, leave hima positive, you got the card, and it is in the condition you bought it in.

He could've insured it through a private company. On my packages, I could insure through either stamps.com or auctiva.

Sorry it was late last night. I guess what I really meant to ask is should I leave feedback as usual or should I mention something in his feedback? The card is fine so leaving anything but positive feedback is out of the question.

Self-insurance is banned by eBay, as you cannot self-insure an item unless you're an authorized insurer. Authorized, as legally able to write insurance for the product. Charging premiums for insurance you didn't write or transfer is fraud, and punishable by jail time. This is SEC territory if the seller is in the United States.

The buyer has the right to ask for the insurance fee back. If not, he should make a claim in that amount.

Personally, I wouldn't be leaving feedback until the issue regarding the lack of insurance is resolved to you.

Positive feedback makes sense regardless, but what you put in the message should be conditional on how he resolves your problem.

If you paid for insurance you should expect the card to be insured..
It arrived fine, but what if it didnt?
TO me he doesn't deserve a positive, so I wouldn't leave feedback at all.
