Bear with me.. This is a post "losing an ebay auction" mood.

Im a collector of Paul Bissonnette, basically he is a nobody.
But when I saw this card pop up on ebay I knew it was a card that would look amazing for my collection

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...egory=216&_trksid=p5197.c0.m619#ht_614wt_1141

He SPGU 1/1

So I kept it fair till late in the auction. And put in a bid of $125.00. Which was a lot. But I wanted it..

I was outbid. And my heart said bid higher.....but my mind stopped me. So I guess a brain has kept me from the hardcore status. Someone has an amazing card now. He paid a lot though..

So basically. Share stories like this if you have any.

THAT. is a lot for a Bissonnette card. I saw what the guy gave up for the Tangradi Black Diamond 1/1 and I thought he was crazy. Sucks that you lost, but now you have $125 to put towards something else you really want.

Just because you lost doesn't mean you're not a hardcore collector. It means you are a smart collector since you didn't go over what you realistically knew that card was worth (SPGU 1/1 RC's are essentially worthless compared to any other 1/1 RC parallels). Unless this person is a member of his family, you'll likely see it surface again in the not-too-distant future, and you'll snag it for about $20.

Don't confuse "hardcore" with "stupid".

The only one I can think of helped push me away from Jack Johnson stuff--an 09/10 SPGU Dual Fight Straps Sam Gagner/Jack Johnson /2. I, and others, figured $150ish should be plenty to grab it given the players. When it blew up to almost $400, "stunned" about summed it up for me. That was the first in a slew of "WTF?" prices on JMFJ stuff.

I put a bid of $150 on the Brad Marchand The Cup 1/1 black RC parallel, and when it went for double, all I could think was woah, someone was after it THAT bad? Let 'em have it, haha, at least I tried.

I consider myself a hardcore Richie collector, but I also consider 1/1's a bonus and don't actively hunt them down.

yeah, 1/1 aren't on my "wantlist".. well they're there just not in my % numbers.

I've passed on my Chipchura's, even non-1/1's. there's a few low numbered one's i need that have been sitting with crazy BIN prices and they do just that, sit. I need them but i'm not an idiot. As others stated, there is a difference between hardcore and stupid.

i wont say that

i know a few hard core collectors who take out 1/1 out of wants. its just a bonus if they do pick it up

Bissonnette really isn't a nobody anymore. Players get popular, budgets get busted and plans get crushed.

It sucks, but it happens. When someone wants to pay more than you fr a card, there really isn't much to do about it.
