Over five years ago when the wildly popular ITG Captain-C was released, I was keeping my eyes peeled for the aptly named Captain-C cards. Joe Sakic had one in the set, featuring his "C" while playing for Team Canada. The only competition where Sakic was named captain for Team Canada was the 2006 Olympics. Knowing just where patches come from is always a bonus for me and I always place a premium on such cards. While the 2006 Olympics weren't exactly the best performance for Team Canada, the special nature of the card made it a no-brainer for me to try to hunt down 1 of the 2 cards. A few days after release, one of the cards was cracked in a group break at Clouts & Chara. After some negotiating, the card was mine. You can see it in my signature below. It was cool that I was able to get my hands on a little piece of history and I assumed that the other half was safely tucked away in someone's collection, especially since the wax has pretty much dried up since release. I maintained an Ebay search and would get daily updates featuring a bevy of stick and jersey cards, base cards, but never the bottom half of this card. Fast forward to about a week ago when IT finally popped up in my search. After another easy negotiation (and overpayment) for the card, it was on my way from Canada. A missed delivery from the mailman meant having to pick it up today. Needless to say I couldn't wait to get home to open up the package. Upon getting home and lining it up with the other half, I admittedly had a bit of a sinking feeling as the two pieces had different materials featured, and one with a seam. After doing a lot of image searches and piecing things together, that feeling subsided. The Nike jerseys for that Olympics had some unusual patterns and panels and I now feel comfortable in my belief that the card is error-free. The team that was between the shoulder and chest panels of that jersey is right along the horizontal cut line of the cards and the seam on the bottom card is consistent with the Nike jerseys from that Olympics. Pieced together, it's a sight to see, made even better by the 5 years I had to wait to put it together! Thanks to Brian Price and ITG for making a true one of a kind card!

Congrats!!

About dang time, you will have to change your signature now!

I highly suggest getting a booklet holder if you plan on displaying it...

If you need one, I think I have a couple spares. PM me if you want.

Haha! You're right about the signature. The only problem is that I don't have any image for the one card I'm now trying to track down. I'll have to be creative I guess...

That's a really good idea with the booklet holder. The one thing that is kind of a problem with these two cards is the one is thicker than the other because of the seam. Is the little "Panini Prime" in your holder done to keep the cards in place? I imagine the booklet holder is just slightly bigger than two regular cards put together. What you did looks sharp though. I'll hunt one down here, but I appreciate the offer for sure!

Nice story Bill! Truly a whale speared. Great to see them displayed together. Really appreciate the kind words in my thread.

That's awesome, Bill!!! One more card for me to scratch off of my search list...I've been looking for this card for you at the Expo and shows I hit in between. Glad it's safely in your possession!!!

Awesome stuff Bill! I think you need to fix your signature now eh? :)

Hopefully you get on a hot streak, I'm still waiting for the last History of Hockey card to surface so that we can see that set in all its glory!

That is friggin gorgeous. So smart splitting he CAPTAIN C part like that. No offense to the Panini example above, but in my opinion a superior version in the design department for ITG.

Yea there is about 1/4" of additional space that wouldn't typically be taken up by the booklet hinge. There are probably some nicer ways to do it, but that way works for me.

I have a Phaneuf 'A' also and it has more layers and a seam. I don't think the thickness will be an issue. If it is, fold up a penny sleeve or two in the back for a spacer.
