If the Jays trade Doc....

I am just glad they are in the same division as the Yankees. No chance Halladay is traded to the Yankees by the Jays

I am a Braves fan so baseball hasnt been as kind to me the last half a decade. Do the Jay's want Jeff Francoeur?

Ricciardi is in complete desperation mode to save his job- but trading away Halliday would probably be a major blow to the fans in Toronto - and if it's not the Leafs - take away any reason to go the Jays - and they will not go in droves.

Can't see the Braves as a destination - or for that matter getting back Francoeur in return - he's just an absolute mess since he lost all discipline at the plate. Even then, at a minimum - the Jays would want Hanson just to start the package.

I don't want Halladay, well we could use him, but have bigger needs. I just wanted voice my displeasure with Francoeur. I don't know who would have the tools to trade for Halladay at the moment. Toronto is a decent team, so I doubt they want too many prospects. What is Toronto's weakness right now, other than their GM? :D

GM is definitely the biggest weakness, second biggest is center field. Vernon Well's is probably the worst $$$ for the performance player in the league, at least now that BJ Ryan doesn't have a job.

Couple those two big blunders with giving away Reed Johnson, who's position is now played by some fan they grab out of the stands, and I am left wondering why JP has a job.

What I don't understand is why did management give J.P. a contract extension when he hasn't done much in the past 4 years at the helm.

I do agree that Vernon Wells is not worth the money that the Jays have given him right now. According to cnnsi.com, he is the front runner for LVP in the league right now.

I don't know...let me start by saying I LOVE Roy Halladay. The guy basically reinvented himself to stay in baseball and did a hell of a job doing it.

The Jays are going no where quickly. Their pitching staff likely set an MLB record by having 12 different pitchers start for them and 5 of those made their MLB debut. Unheard of.

Halladay is still the best pitcher in the majors BUT his value to the team as a tradeable commodity won't be any higher than it is now. Ricciardi is in desperation mode, but I have to think from a business standpoint, his timing couldn't be better with this. For the team, it sucks. No one wants to hear your best player might be dealt, but it would bring back enough to change the team's fortunes almost immediately.

Here's what I would do:

Fire Ricciardi. I wouldn't let this guy handle a second rebuild. He effed up the first one.

Trade Halladay. Get a starter and three solid prospects back for him OR a top flight prospect and two solid prospects (Gordon Beckham, anyone?).

Tie Wells to the deal. You want Halladay? You have to take this injury prone guy and his fat contract too. We still want what is above, but you need to take Halladay AND Wells.

Leave Cito in there and keep pushing Lind and Hill as your focal point for the team.

I could handle this for sure. Just I know if JP trades Halliday he will get nothing of value in return. He just seems to be tied to crappyness.

JP already signed his death warrant when he finally canned Ryan and his contract, which may have been obtained under enhanced circumstances, but I digress. Now that his daddy in Godfrey is long gone, I expect Paul Beeston to be already looking for the new GM once the season is done with.

I just don't see the Jays trading Doc at this point unless they get at a minimum two bona-fide superstars in the making - and that isn't going to happen these days - everyone is hanging onto those players. The Jays' problem is that the fans have seen far too much of this - and unlike Leaf fans - they aren't going to stand for it much longer - and this could turn into an Expos' situation where the area has been poisoned sufficiently that it becomes a who cares? situation.

As much as I'd love to see Gordon Beckham - the White Sox aren't trading him for anyone - the best you'd see from them might be Aaron Poreda and a couple of Type B prospects. But Beckham is VERY special - not too far from Longoria at the same juncture - and is pretty much untouchable. I think the Phillies match up very well, I'd see Jason Donald and at a minimum one of B astardo, Carrasco or Drabek coming back Toronto's way if that happens. The Red Sox could do a deal - but the arms coming up are ready to go, but pitching is not a concern for them, plus they're controllable for several years yet - but they definitely need another bat or two.

From what I've read - if Wells is taken in a deal with Halladay - that deal would've been done yesterday - one problem, no one wants Wells, plain and simple. So that leaves the Jays spinning their wheels until a new regime comes in - so that makes the rebuilding project going on 7 years plus. In hindsight - Gord Ash did a great job and probably shouldn't have been let go in the first place, but the Delgado deal basically sewered his job in TO.

Lots of talk in Philly that Amaro Jr is going after him, names being tossed around is JA Happ and Kyle Drabek as the pitchers as well as 3 other prospects.

If the Jays trade Doc, I will never watch another Jays game.....EVER!

I'm already at the point where for the last 10 years I haven't watched them past July and now this season is now different.

If it weren't for Jerry Howarth I don't think I would even listen to them at all.

I would love to see Vernon Wells involved in the Halladay deal. But I think regardless of what the Jays get back from the other team, they will be forced to pay at least half of Wells' outstanding contract. Then you could add him to the list of names including Frank Thomas and BJ Ryan that the Jays are paying to not play for them. I'm not sure if that is worth it. I do think that Rios is tradeable for prospects without having to eat part of his salary.

How Ricciardi still has a job is beyond me. How I feel about him now is the way I used to feel about John Ferguson Jr. Both of these men kept their jobs way longer than they deserved.
