I'm pretty sure this is a FAKE

Saw this in ebay and was interested in getting this for my Taylor Hall collection UNTIL I looked closer at the picture.

Fake Taylor Hall card

Here's why I think it is fake:

1) The auto is horrible- looks like an old man signed it. I have NEVER seen a Taylor Hall auto like that anywhere before.

2) It is signed with a number 9. Hall was number 4 for his time with the Oilers, not using 9 until his New Jersey days.

3) The numbering on the back doesn't look like the numbering used by Panini in that set.

Does anyone have any thoughts or helpful info on this one?

looking at some parallels from the same set he signed with a 4.....the autos dont look anything a like i would lean the same way you are....that being said the seller in question has an impeccable reputation so if it is a fake, I would bet the seller is unaware

Jason at PC is top-notch and I’m betting one of his minion’s look after the eBay listings.

Maybe send them a message to bring this “highly suspect autographed card” to their attention.

It looks fake to me. The Panini sticker autos from that set have the Panini watermark all over them which that one does not.

Would this have been a non-auto that theoretically got a sticker slapped on it? The only other thought I had is that the emerald parallels were numbered already but this one definitely looks "off".

I think all of your concerns are valid. Also the comment regarding the Panini watermark on the stickers is a quick way to check. On other card scans it can be very hard to see depending on the angle but this sticker doesn't look like it has any regardless. The number stamp on the back is not the same as all the other cards which have a distinct 3 and 5 and no over stamping.

We can add on to the fact that the swatch is not Prime, which back then meant a seam.

You can see the damage along the patch window.

Nothing about this card makes sense though. Why put a fake auto on an already auto'd card, and why replace a prime patch with a 2 color jersey swatch, and why add a fake serial number?

Practice for something bigger?
