Hi Everyone,

It's been a while since I've been able to make a post. Although, I have had some pick ups in the past two months or so, I've been mostly lurking, looking around, and haven't had a ton of time to make any posts. I wanted to make some time to make a post about Jordin Tootoo as he officially announced his retirement today after 723GP 65G 96A 161PTS and 1010PIM during his NHL career.

Sadly, the first time I ever heard the name Jordin Tootoo was when his brother Terence had passed away in 2002. However, that same season he was tearing up the WHL and found a way onto the National Junior team at the World Junior Championships. I remember him becoming the "Tootoo Train" at that tournament and becoming one of my favourite players. The next season Jordin became the first Inuk player to make it in the NHL as he was a rookie in 2003-04.

Being a First Nations person (Cree), it was awesome to see a fellow Indigenous person (Inuit) succeed in professional sports. Well, I can't say enough about the impact Jordin has had in the Indigenous community as many people have looked up to him and continue to do so today. As well, if you had the opportunity to read his book "All The Way" you will know the struggles he had with substances during his time in the NHL as he dealt with the passing of his brother since 2002. It has been amazing to see and read about what he has overcome over the years and become a role model and father today.

Anyway, sorry for the read, I just wanted to express his importance of being in the NHL and what he has done for the Indigenous community. He will be honoured tomorrow at the Oilers game for anyone who will be watching or attending.

In honour of his retirement, here are my best Tootoo rookie cards/rookie year autos. Please share yours!

Thanks for the read and for sharing your cards!

Awesome stuff! I have a Panini Private Signings somewhere, no scan right now though. Thanks for this thread; excited to see what else is shared!

Great post Naim. Really well written.

I don’t have any cards of Jordin but have had his book sitting on the “to read” list for a little while (I really should dig into that title).

Some fantastic cards.

Thanks for sharing.

Me too!

Amazing post as always Naim !

I like the tribute idea tomorrow, so obviously I won’t miss that....and looking forward to it. The Oilers always put on stellar tributes.

Yes, they do. Looking forward to seeing the tribute as well!

Those rookie patch autos are sharp!

Thank you. Just picked up the SPA FW patch auto.

Love the 03/04 Premier auto. Those were great cards!

The best set ever produced IMO. Thanks!

The only two Tootoo cards I currently have of note:

Beauty! They're on eBay correct?

Thanks, buddy! Yes, you should pick up a copy. Worth the read!

This is the only Tootoo that I have.
And probably one of the most unique jersey cards I have ever seen.
Probably why I still have it.

Your collection is awesome.

Thanks, Scott! That is one cool card!

As expected, that was a great tribute the Oilers gave Jordin and his family, especially on HNIC. Making a non Oilers player and his family VIP’s for an evening at Rogers Place, was just pure class.
I respect the hurdles and personal demons he has overcome, and very much respect his future plans in being an ambassador for indigenous youth that are facing the same issues.

God speed Mr. Tootoo
