Time was, this was the most important race of any kind in the US. Now with the split into IRL and Cart, the 500 has lost a lot of its lustre. Its a shame that this is the case but it just lacks that same importance it once garnered. Nascar has left it in its wake.

I have to agree Dan. I remember being a kid and getting up early on race day to listen to it "LIVE" with my dad. It was a day better than any TV coverage, as you got the ambiance(sp) of the race, and the fans...as you heard them actually CHEER....
