There is only one thing which I can see suggesting it could be a fake, and that is that it's a nice patch.

Other than that, I would think it's legit. First of all, it is somewhat unlikely that someone would take the time, and effort to tamper with a Nilsson patch, simply because of the players in that set, the return on many other players would be higher. Basically, the dollar return on the effort doesn't seem reasonable. That said, I do know that there was a Nigel Dawes Cup RC that got faked, so anything is possible.

The seller has very high feedback, which is certainly no gurantee, but has to be seen as a good thing, rather than a bad thing, all else being equal.

Is the patch realy from a Islanders jersey?

Try to find it...

Allso i have seen many patches and i have been buying a lot of patches from whit Nilsson and never seen a card like this!
Allso need to say that it could be possible to make a fake of a cheep card just to learn how to do it?
But alright i don't have any isues whit the seller, but he allso seen to have problem to now what year the card is made?

But just afraid to buy a fake patch, have done it before and not fun! :(
Thanks for all input!

if it's the only Cup RC they had in their collection they'd tamper in a heartbeat

Im not so sure about this. I used to think that. Then I saw all the high feedback sellers, with multiple Ebay accounts, exposed on HI for pulling these patch faking stunts. Again and again. Then I realized that a good percentage of these patch faking sellers were indeed veterans of the hobby, not just the rookies.
In my opinion high feedback doesnt indicate that a seller is only selling guaranteed legitimate product.

Looks like that patch might be from the retro logo. Here's a picture.

^ There have been lots of fake patches of players that aren't considered stars or semistars, but I don't think this one is.

I dident think they used retro jersey to any other patches that i have seen to Nilsson...

But i don´t know if this is real or not...
Just like to get You point! :)

In my opinion, you will not know if it is a fake or not... I think if you feel that their is a chance that it is fake, then stay away from it.. In the end you will just stress on the authenticity of the card.... There are 249 copies, if you have followed this player and have not seen a nice one like this, then you are perhaps more qualified then anyone else on this board to determine if it is real or not... Regardless, good luck...

I personally think it is a fake. My reasoning is that I'm pretty sure the lettering from the Isles logo is much larger than that and I don't think the patch window on the Cup RCs would be large enough to show that much of a single letter. Also most of the Nilsson and other Isles patchs I recall seeing from that year have a darker Navy blue and lighter orange to them. Could be the picture but it just doesn't look right to me at all.

I figure I might help. Echoing Hckyfan47, I'd say the lettering wouldn't fit entirely. Here's what I did.

Here's approx what the card would look like if it was normal sized.

Here it lapping a logo.

From my viewpoint, the logo is too large, seeing as the card would almost cover the Isle's crest end to end.

I hope this has been somewhat helpful.

I can't say for sure but like you Jimmy, I've never seen his Cup RC with a patch like that, so it certainly looks odd. I'd stay away from it but it's of course your call.

I think i could say it´s a fake but i don´t know...

LumpyGumby´s image make me belive it´s even more fake, but then like some of You say ho in hell fake a Nilsson patch!?!
Alright like i was writing it could be a test just to see how good the faker could do a "upgrade" version... A Nilsson The Cup card sell for like $10-30 range, if this patch´s real i guess i could pay more, i like to have the best patch of Nilsson in my Nilsson collection....

Jimmy, i`m constantly searching the bay for cup rcs from all years, and these days its so hard to tell which patch is truely legit. Comparing the other islanders patches from that set are a good indicater of forgery. I havent seen a patch like that, ^plus it doesnt fit any of the jerseys from that year. It was said previously about the crest being too big in the window. I would let the auction end, see what happens. It might not even sell, or maybe the seller will pull it of the bay, to be never seen again:) Hard to tell really...my verdict-----FAKE. In the end its your decision...take care..and happy new year to ya JIM

who'd make a fake Neilson??? I'd say real

If it was real (which I highly doubt it is) I know of a few rookie collectors who'd gladly pay HUGE for it so to say it's Nilsson who'd fake it..... is absurd!!

Alot of people don't understand or quite get it, but IF the patch is undeniably the top 2 out there for any player..... it's going for BIG bucks no matter who the guy is. The Cup rookie set builders including myself chase these rare patches no matter who the player is....

You don't even know what I've had to pay to chase down some of the cards in the pc.

As for this one I emailed the seller and he said didn't pull it but from a customer. I've followed the 05-06 The Cup rookie patches pretty closely and would venture to say it's a fake as well. The EVER-FAMOUS fake patcher is still lurking and nothings been done to him to force him to stop his shenanigans, so there are still going ot be fakes floating around!! Buyer beware and Jimmy I'd sayt stay away from this one....

Honestly.....I've been hunting Cup RC's for 4 years straight....and I personally thought that card looked a little fishy. That being said, I was also planning on bidding on it, just in case it was indeed real. It's a pretty nice patch.
