Im not up to date on the licensing thing so i was curious if Topps and ITG etc are going to be making nhl licensed cards. i really liked those refractor autos from the early 2000s

I have heard the vaguest of rumours that the topic has been raised with Topps a couple of times, but the information's about as solid as wet Kleenex.

Nobody at the NHLPA or NHL is even willing to TALK to ITG, if I remember correctly. That is to say, other than to gesticulate madly and make ludicrous claims about likeness rights.

I may have misheard, but listening to 10/12/2012 podcast on Cardboard Connection Radio Dr. Price sorta hinted that he turned down a NHLPA licenses due to the some of the restrictions they were trying to impose. If anyone listens to that show it starts at the 40:25 mark of the podcast.

The only contact I still have at Topps has indicated that Topps isn't the least bit interested in getting back in the hockey market. No reasons given, just his answer.

I wish they would.

I'm a huge fan of the on-card rookie autographs in Bowman.

On the other hand, that would add a LOT of parallels to the mix.

This summer the NHLPA offer me a licensing deal that would in my opinion would have put us out of business.

Try as I may to explain this to them, they did not want to listen and we stopped our negotiations.

I must say that they see things in a very, very strange way.

Don't know what the future holds but until there are some changes at the NHLPA, we will continue to do what we do.

Now you have heard it from the horse's mouth.

Thanks for the clarification. When I was listening to the interview I figured there was more to the story.

Great interview by the way.

Sounds like it had a lot to do with mandating use of photo-shoot materials.

It is nice to know that the NHLPA at least came to the table. In my way of thinking, it's at least an acknowledgment that they made a mistake back in 2005, and again in 2010.
