I really like the direction the Islanders are headed. They have plenty of young talent and I think may just get into the playoffs next year. However, they have to do one thing first.

BUY OUT DIPIETRO....

He absolutely stinks.

I've watched thousands of NHL games in my 40+ years. Rick Dipietro is in my opinion, the worst goalie I've ever watched play between the pipes in the NHL. I've tried to give him the benefit of the doubt with reference to injuries, games played and age. No. I have watched every game he's played this year and last, except one and even the games they won with him in net, I give credit to the defence or offence.

I wish Wang would buy him out and finally learn not to do 10 year contracts to unproven or proven players. Unfortunately there is no way to trade him, even if they paid half his remaining contract.

They did find a diamond in the rough with Montoya. He has played pretty solid and I'd be happy if they offered him a 3 or 4 year contract and made Dipietro a back up.

I appreciate you reading my last game of the year rant, for the Islanders. Hopefully Wang, Snow and Capuano recognize the same things I've observed and witnessed these last couple years and do something more to make the Isles competitive.

Once Yashin's buyout is over, I can see them doing it. Unfortunately, they have to wait until the end of 2013/2014

Then again, they must still think he can get the job done. They could 'do the Huet' with him, but that has never been considered. It's not like Wang is cash-strapped, so burying him in the minors shouldn't be an issue.

He does suck, plain and simple. I'd be looking to get him out of town anyway possible.

Isn't one of the issues that he and Wang are really close? So would Wang really buy him out, or bury him in the minors?

Injuries will do that.

At least he got paid before hand.......This is hardly his fault, it is the morons running the team. For his sake, I hope they buy him out and he returns for another team and wins a cup.

The guy is a class act, and has one of the best personalities in all of sports. Cockiness is not a word I would even think of putting into his repertoire either, not sure where that comment came from. And yes, a Rangers fan backing up an isles player, who knew.....

I saw him Saturday night and was going to get PO if we lost because it's DiPietro. He is absolutely terrible and is just stealing money from your franchise. The Islanders have a very young and talented franchise in the works but you will NEVER sniff the playoffs with him between the pipes.

At this point - the Isles may buy out a lot of veterans, or as many as they have, just to take the cap hit to MAKE it to the salary floor. Because it's becoming clearer that Wang will not get the development which included the new arena he's been looking for. So the team is no more than an albatross for him and will run it on the absolute cheap as long as humanly possible

not stealing if the owner is just giving it to him. no need for Isles fans to worry though. they've got a decent core of younguns now and another decent pick coming up. i'm sure DP will go down again at some point this season so Montoya can take over and shine again. as long as the rest of the team stays uninjured for the season, i'd imagine the Isles doing pretty well next season.

Why do people think they are suffering from Yashin's buy out? Last time I checked weren't they using that buy out just to get to the cap minimum?

This team's problem isn't that they are paying DiPietro (he'd be a better goalie if he had a better team in front of him), it's that they're not paying anybody else (seriously how is gillies in the NHL).
Maybe they're just waiting for the young guys on the team now to mature and want to have the cap space.

Dipietro was better before the injuries - applies to a lot of players, especially goalies.
Deep down it's the GM/Ownership's fault for offering that contract in the first place. Dipietro would have been a fool to turn it down.
