I've seen it all now...

I too might be in the minority. I am all over this. I love it..

As long as they stop at Game used jocks. Then I will draw the line.

Oh but they should use game used jocks. Call the subset "The Cup".

You can have "The Cup" in The Cup.

LOL.. i desperately want to add in a caption but that would violate all sensible laws of self governance lol..

I am totally down for this.

I don't buy much these days because it is all the same, monotonous, stagnant crap.

I like NEW ideas and things in my PC, having the same patch 45 times on 45 cards is LAME. That's why Panini has been getting my business of late, different stuff.

BIG props to UD on this one.

I don't see any issue with it at all. Now one might think, what hasn't been done with memorabilia in cards that could potentially be there? Mouthpiece? Shin guards? An 8 piece complete player card. Stick, Jersey, Patch, Skate, Glove, Fight Strap, Helmet... See what I mean. It has to go somewhere.

What's wrong with this? We're always saying we need new, fresh ideas and then we crap on anything that's different? I love it! Keep it up UD!

In my opinion Panini has raised the bar with some of their new and innovative ideas. Some have worked and some have not. Maybe this is Upper Decks way of innovating.

In my opinion anything new is a good thing. We are in a day and age where their is very little to do to sports cards to make them 'fresh'. So many different ideas and themes and colour schemes have been used. A lot of what is new is just recycled from old products and made 'fresh'. I am all for a new idea.

Even if this does not catch on and people will complain about it their will only be ten Gretzky hockey bags cards out there. You can count me as one but I am certain that nine others would be interested in them.

Count me in on this as well! I love this concept because it's new, fresh...and it's not like we haven't seen it before. While some may be saying that they'd only collect it if it were depicted with Howe, Orr, Gretzky, et al...I would have no problem collecting hockey "bags" of other players. None whatsoever. If they want to make a hockey bag auto of Zach Parise, Jonathan Toews or even Calvin de Haan...I'd be down with that. Why? It's a fresh idea, and player collectors would eat it up. If they made a bag auto of Modano, Jack Johnson, Parise, Nichushkin...you can best believe that I would line up to snag one.

UD has done this with Woods, and now Gretzky. I say bravo. It's not the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it works. Also look at it this way...Ultimate is a $125ish pack. That Gretzky bag is already over $200 (as of this post) The owner is seeing positive return on his break. What's not to like?

Panini is using skates, skate blades, laces, hat pieces, hat seams and everything else under the sun to make 'memorabilia pieces.' They're like the Native Americans when they killed buffalo back on the prairie...nothing was ever wasted.

UD is using hockey bags. AWESOME!

Any of the aforementioned pieces/ideas beats a MANUFACTURED swatch of ANYTHING any day of the week and twice on Sunday!

I am all for it, something different. The jersey card has been dead for years, the patch card has been on life support for a while unless you get insane patches, so a new piece of memorabilia to chase is a good thing.

I may be in the minority but I think that's pretty cool. If it was anyone other then Gretky, Orr, Howe, Roy, I might think it's a bit "cheap", but that's a pretty cool and different piece of memorabilia from one of the all time greats.

If I pulled that card I would be thrilled with it.

I'm going to guess it came from one of these:

Agree completely!!! Love the card but if it was someone like Jason smith I wouldn't like it at all.

Indeed - I remember seeing the Classic Auctions listing and am glad that this notable piece of memorabilia made it into Ultimate!

I'm in agreement with the lot here it seems, I think it's a great idea. As long as it's a legendary player where game used memorabilia is tough to find and it's clearly labeled as to where it came from, I'm in.

I really like this especially when it's from a older bag, newer ones are just too boring....very nice idea!
Just hope that they doesn't reeks like a dead raccoon because I knows very well how awfully a heavily used hockey bag stinks....

That's pretty damn cool...never mind people having thought about saving game used equipment over the years AT ALL, but keeping a hockey bag is likely unheard of. I wonder if that came out of the Gretzky collector's (the dude from out west with all of the game used stuff) collection? Either way, VERY dope!

I've seen a version of this card with a practice jersey in it also.

UD is probably getting short on Gretzky game worn jerseys and turning to other things for his memorabilia cards. Thumbs up on the hockey bag idea, something I haven't seen before.
