on other News Pirates sign Gerrit Cole to a contract with $8 million signing bonus.... So Jays was the only team that didn't sign the first round pick.

Also Trent Boras didn't sign a contract..... poor Trent have to live from his dad Scott........

Beede was offered $2.3M - even though that was well above slot, and more than the Mets paid their pick, which was 10 spots higher.

Don't know if he might come to regret, because it's more than likely there will be a slotting system in the next CBA which will be in effect once he is able to get out of college in 3 yrs.

So the Jays end up with the 22nd pick next year, on top of their own pick. They did sign 12 of their first 13 picks apparently, so it was still a fruitful draft, since they picked a lot of guys that fell on signability concerns.

that is true, and wow that was a higher bonus then i thought... so smart play by the jays

Plus Beede can't enter the draft again until 2014. Stupid move on his part. If he gets hurt between now and then, he's screwed.

People are knocking the Jays/Anthopoulos for not signing him...they've made some SICK moves that makes me more than willing to give them a mulligan on that one (STEALING Colby Rasmus from St Louis and flipping Shaun Marcum for Brett Lawrie).

He can re-enter the draft if he goes to a JuCo instead of going to Vanderbilt. Reading into this - it sounds like he was looking in the neighbourhood of about $4M-5M to sign, along the lines of what Josh Bell took to sign with Pittsburgh.

was going to ask about JuCo... but it is overwith

i figured i get some baseball talk on here..

I don't think there's any way he passes on Vandy, and I guess he didn't want to have to play against his hometown Red Sox all the time. Baseball's draft system is a train wreck. I think the Jays tried their best to sign him, and couldn't get it done. I don't blame either side, it's just a by-product of the system that is in place. Not that affixing a hard cap on draft slots will help, will likely just make things worse.

He's not passing on Vanderbilt.

They need to allow teams to trade picks. The draft is too difficult...imagine Washington being able to trade #1 overall? They could have remade their team TWICE in the last two years.

Whatever, the Jays get their pick back in next year's draft.
