He has allegedly tested positive positive for a banned substance. And is officially out of the fight. The commission is supposed to be releasing a statement sometime today. If this is true Barnett is an absolute moron, and would be the first fighter that I can think of off the top of my head to test positive twice (please correct me if I'm wrong). Here's the link to the most updated story to this point:

Possible replacements: Vitor Belfort (who's scheduled to fight on the card against Jorge Santiago at Middleweight);
Bobby Lashley; Brett Rogers. With so little notice it seems as though Vitor is the frontrunner.

This is very dissapointing, I was looking foreward to this fight, no one can step in the ring with Fedor with 10 days notice and even have a chance. Hopefully after Fedor finishes off whoever, he and Dana White can get the biggest MMA fight to date and have him take on Lesner.

So being a Barnett fan, I still chuckled that his Wikipedia profile currently states he lost by submission to fear to Fedor :D

I can't believe Barnett tested positive for steriods again. I was really looking forward to this fight. I'd like to see Vitor step in. He'd at least make the fight exciting if he fights like he has recently.

Fedor would destroy Lashley and I heard Rogers wants somewhere in the neighborhood of$800k to take the fight.

So the show was cancelled and now Dana has to wait even longer for Fedor to be a Free Agent?

Exactly, hence the cancellation of the show. If Fedor fought anyone on August 1st, he becomes a free agent on August 2nd and available for the UFC to sign. If Affliction puts on the show without Barnett, they will not get half of the PPV buys they would have with him, because that's the main fight they are promoting. In that case, they lose a lot of money and will make nothing. No more Affliction shows.

If they pull the Fedor fight completely, nobody will buy the PPV, and they lose a ton of money, and have some seriously pissed off people who showed up expecting to see Fedor. No more Affliction shows.

If they cancel the show entirely, they only lose the money on the promoting and arena rental (if it wasn't given to them for free). They aren't required to pay the fighters, because they did not fight, although they will have to buy out their contracts. This leaves Fedor still under contract for one more fight, and now Affliction can use that as a bargining chip, to get back in as a sponsor in the UFC and sell the UFC Fedor's contract.

That's just what I was thinking though.

Wow, now that is what I call a business man thinking. I wonder how iron clad tight Fedor's contract is? Would he have cause to get the contract thrown out in court if other fighters get bought out?

well it now seems Affliction is done as a fight promoter and now has a deal with UFC for sponsorship, could be good for Fedor, linky

Wow. Good call. It looks like at least some of this is already coming true.

T-Lo looks like you are exactly right. Except for what I am hearing is Fedor doesn't have to obligate to fight with the UFC to end his contract. Although I am sure those details will come to fruition soon enough.

Overall I am saddened to see a rival to the UFC fall, but I am also glad Affliction can live on.

When all of this news broke, I started thinking, as a promoter myself, what would I do? And it looks like Tom Atencio did just that. Fedor will want something out of Affliction, and Affliction will want something for Fedor. Fedor will end up in the UFC, it's just a matter of Affliction selling the contract and the UFC letting Fedor fight in the Sambo competitions, which is what the sticking point has basically always been. The money has always been right.

Contracts are a sticky situation. Sometimes it's easier to just let the fighter go and not deal with the court BS. There are several top-name fighters out there (no, I can't name them without getting in trouble) that still owe KOTC one or two fights on their cotracts. But it isn't worth the headache to enforce it.
