Exactly, hence the cancellation of the show. If Fedor fought anyone on August 1st, he becomes a free agent on August 2nd and available for the UFC to sign. If Affliction puts on the show without Barnett, they will not get half of the PPV buys they would have with him, because that's the main fight they are promoting. In that case, they lose a lot of money and will make nothing. No more Affliction shows.


If they pull the Fedor fight completely, nobody will buy the PPV, and they lose a ton of money, and have some seriously pissed off people who showed up expecting to see Fedor. No more Affliction shows.


If they cancel the show entirely, they only lose the money on the promoting and arena rental (if it wasn't given to them for free). They aren't required to pay the fighters, because they did not fight, although they will have to buy out their contracts. This leaves Fedor still under contract for one more fight, and now Affliction can use that as a bargining chip, to get back in as a sponsor in the UFC and sell the UFC Fedor's contract.


That's just what I was thinking though.
