Hey guys,

I haven't collected much hockey these last 2 years so have been pretty much a spectator but I have been recently sucked back into the world of non-sports and the sketches!!! I am mainly just going to collect Star Wars as there is just way too many genres out there!

I have done 2 cases of Star Wars Galaxy 5 and I was pretty pleased...

I know there are not too many sketch collectors on here so I post on Scoundrel Art mostly but I still want to post on HI so I will be updating my sketch pick ups here as well!

Good to see you around here again L, best of luck with the non sports collection.
There are probably a half dozen serious non sports guys on this board,
MikeysLeafs
Oasis
Bruce
Dave Weisberg
Wes
Triple B
Bommer67
I know I'm forgetting some.
Plus a bunch more who dabble on occasion.

Dan.

Pardon my ignorance, but are those sketches actual artist sketches cut to fit the card, or a short print or what? What is the significance of them and are they actually signed? Just curious. I have never got into that side of collecting. Very interesting though.

Thanks everyone for the nice words... For the most part I find non-sports to be pretty fun to break, the wax is cheaper and you still can pull some "Superstar" sketches. Great stuff if you are a SW or Comic NERD like me! :) Some of the sketches are borderline masterpieces!

Czech20- Sketch cards are basically one of a kind, usually unique sketches done by an individual artist. Kinda of like a 1/1. The sketch is actually drawn on the blank card, and can range from a simple black/white pencil sketch to all out color with paint/acrylics. There are usually quite a few artists for each set, who do various amount of sketches so yes there will be "Short prints" of artist who do a smaller print run. Just like various pulls in hockey, there will be Superstar artist pulls (Gretzky, Orr, etc) and there are of course dud artist pulls (Trent Hunter, Kevin Bieska, etc). They are usually signed or at least marked with the artists signature somewhere on the front (as you can see in my scans).

Thanks everyone and I will post some pickups one of these days..

Lionel - I'm mostly learning about the sketches as well. Some of those "commons" level guys (Pennington leaps to mind) are quite nice.

And really, common or superstar, when was the last time you busted wax and your box hit invariably at least got SOME measure of your attention consistently?

Steve- I agree with your point. For the most part every time I pull a sketch, (80-90% of the time) I am amazed at the quality, uniqueness, and coolness of these sketches. Sure you pull the occasional black and white sketch that looks like it took the artist 5 minutes BUT a lot of these color pieces/painted pieces are superb. I will be just sticking to the Star Wars Universe and not doing Marvel/DC etc, as 1 universe is already big eough... What sketches are you collecting?
