Some thoughts....

We all know that on the surface, Williams doesn’t have any of the big numbers that one associates with a HOF career (500 goals, 1000 pts, oodles of individual trophies, etc)

But he did have a couple interesting standouts....19 seasons, almost 1300 games, almost 800 points, THREE Stanley Cups (and a key player for every single one), a Conn Smythe, and more clutch game 7 points (15) than any other player in NHL history.

Could he get in on a down year perhaps? He seems to have had the respect of pretty much every coach or teammate that he ever played with.

Regardless, congrats on an AMAZING NHL career to Justin Williams and his well deserved retirement.

Guy Carbonneau got in without having crazy goals number, maybe Williams has a chance?

I agree that he's more likely to make it on a weak ballot year. He's a lock for the Hall of Pretty Good.

He's also a lock for Hall of Beloved by Canes Fans, but that only goes so far. As a Canes fan, sure, I'd love to see it. But I'm not holding my breath.

he should be a no brainer to get in

i cant wait til corey perry retires he should also be a lock to get in... hes won at every level in hockey but something tells me he wont get in

justin williams .. mr game 7...how doesnt ud make a card of this guy as mr game 7

Hall of Very Good and there's nothing wrong with that. He's had an enviable career.

For example, Claude Lemieux has a comparable career by the numbers and I don't think anyone is looking to put him in (Draper hit aside). If it's taken 11 years to find a "down year" to maybe get someone like Mogilny in, I wouldn't be particularly optimistic.

His playoff stats alone will get him in, maybe not in the first year but maybe 2nd or 3rd, as now we will be starting to hit the years of a gap between players in the league who are in their 10th to 20th year.
