Ken Hitchcock FIRED by Columbus

Anyone notice that the hardline 'systems' coaches have been struggling to get their teams to perform in recent years while the players coaches seem to be having success? The players aren't afraid of these types of coaches any more.

Saw this one coming awhile back, team full of rookies and budding stars couldn't take his reign anymore. The mason thread I mentioned hitchcook would be the one paying the price very soon and now look;).
Good coach and all but his team needs something different. And they have a lot of talent so let's see what they do without any excuses.

I would think that Babcock would be an acceptable exception to that statement.

Surprised it took this long. Not the right type of team for this type of coach.

Now lessee if Voracek and Brassard can rebound.

I'm really hoping Filatov decides to return and play in Columbus. I really don't think Hitchcock was a good young rookies coach.

I think he will. Earlier this year he was asked if he would come back to Columbus and his response was something like, "things needs to change first before I consider coming back". He wouldn't say what changes but everyone knew that it was Hitchcock that he was talking about.

Personally, to everyone that thinks Filatov is great or siding with that spoiled little punk, he needs his 175 lb body to get rocked once by someone that weighs 200+ lbs and he'll be lying on a guerney somewhere. As for Hitchcock leaving, I can't say I'm happy about it, in Columbus we currently have a bunch of underachieving little kids playing right now, and for them to just stop playing so the coach can get fired is proof of that. To be honest nothing is going to change.....Mason still can't protect the glove side of the net, the defense is not going to improve and we are going to get our majority of scoring from the guys that are named Umberger, Torres, and Nash......I'm not holding my breath until things start turning around.

Sorry for the little rant but I've been a CBJ fan since the beginning and therefore I am incapable of being an optimist when it comes to the outlook of this team.

You HAVE to be optimist.

Hitchcock was clearly ruining Brassard and Voracek. Compare what Voracek did at the beginning of the season and watch him play now? He was DOMINANT, he has now lost his confidence and is invisible.

Brassard was not dominant at the beginning but that's because of his injury of last year.

I still believe both have the potential to be top line fowards and I'm convinced they will bounce back within a few weeks.

They were clearly playing with no heart. They wanted to get Hitch fired. They won't make the playoffs but I am convinced they will be a competitive team next year with Brassard and Voracek on the first line and Filatov and (Seguin, Hall....?) on the second with Vermette.

I do agree that Brassard and Voracek will get better but I don't have enough faith in the rest of the players, no offense to Steve Mason, but I had him figured out halfway through that great season of his, he is terrible on the glove side, and now he is so worried about the glove side that his five hole has become also the 6th and 7th hole. There needs to be improved defensive play or it better be breakout play and hope we can outscore every team in the NHL.

The thing is every team now know how to score against him. It's a bit like every other great goalie rookies! He will improve his play in the next few years... Patience is needed. More offense will help him a lot and hopefully they will hire an offensive minded coach. I agree they could use some better D as well....
