Kovalchuk to the Habs.....

Kovalchuk could have easily had a Selanne like career when it was all said and done if he would have stayed in the NHL and made some better choices signing contract extensions or as a free agent. One of the best players of the last 20 years.

It's amazing how low view people have of Kovalchuk as a hockey player. How can you even discuss that there's a risk in signing a player of his caliber for 700K w/two-way contract?

Besides, LA is the only team he hasn't had success in during his career.

Absolutely, it’s like getting Ovechkin, Laine or Stamkos’ shot on your PP for league minimum. It’s a no brainer of a signing, especially since it’s a two way deal. Kind of surprising Pittsburgh or Washington didn’t take a flier on him.

The NHL owners, GM's and coaches get it. They know him best. Rather than making the players around him better all he has ever done is try (and fail) to set himself up and take care of his own stats. He's an extremely selfish player. If he was anything like Ovechkin or Stamkos all the teams would be clamoring over each other to sign him. But he's not...… and never has been. There are many, many reasons why only one team in the NHL has chosen to sign him.
A career +- of worse than -150?

Couldn't have put it any better!

The following players suck too (sarcasm):

Lecavalier, career -140
Kirk Muller, career -100
Brian Bellows, career -125
Bernie Federko, career -132
Dale Hawerchuk, career -92 (I mean, how can you score 96 points and be -30, or 105pts with -27 in a season!)

It's amazing how you can't give zero props to the guy. I guess all his Devils teammates were lying to the media about his willingness to play defense too while he was there.

You think any team, which could of picked him up for the minimum contract, ends up giving a pick to MTL to add him for their playoff run?

Who knows, could happen if/when Montreal is officially out of a playoff spot. Would be a good, lower risk add if the price is right. Montreal holds all the cards right now with his stellar start so far.
