It was a beautiful, warm day here in Calgary so a close friend and I decided to grab a Tim's coffee and take in the Stampeders' Training Camp practice at McMahon.

We got to talking about many topics CFL and the question of who was the last two-way player in the CFL came up. Garney Henley of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the sixties is the last one I can remember.

Does anyone else here have any suggestions? I tried Google but I couldn't find an answer on the net.

Looking forward to the start of the season.

Skill player? Or lineman - I thought linemen played both ways into the 70s

We discussed every position, but were probably thinking more along the lines of the skill positions.

Jackie Parker and Garney Henley are probably the most well known in this regard. In their prime they rarely left the field during a game. I believe there were linemen in the 70's that would fill in on the other side of the ball but would not play a full game on offense and defense.

Wayne Giardino played linebacker for the Rough Riders in the 70's and he would often fill in at the fullback position. This was at a time when the fullbacks actually carried the ball with regularity and weren't simply blocking backs.

Dave Raimey (Bombers & Argos) spent the first half of his career in the offensive back field and then switched to defense for the second half of his career and I believe was an all-star at both positions.
