Picked up a copy of the Ovechkin Engrained Honorary Engravings card from the 18-19 release a while back. I think it is a really cool card with a great design and looks even better in person.

So with the current 19-20 Engrained being released recently I was browsing the cards on ebay looking to see if maybe I could find some other cards to possibly pickup. Well all I can say is "really?". I try not to be negative about the hobby, but how are collectors suppose to care about UD products when they themselves don't......

Yup. I agree. That's just plain laziness and inattentiveness to detail. I guess a monopoly can afford them this lackadaisical effort? This isn't a low-end product were talking about here either.

Bad batch of whatever adhesive they used or perhaps a new supplier?

I don’t have one in hand to be able to tell if it was missed or just let go.

I saw this happen on a break, the plaque had the adhesive but was not secured to the wood (perhaps a coating issue?), when the card was flipped over the plaque slipped out of position and adhered over the player image and could not be removed without force potentially causing damage.

It can be viewed here.

That is crazy how it moved when the card was flipped and then stuck so well when it was turned back over.

Yeah, that's not good. Once or twice is fine, as stuff happens, but seeing it happen this many times is cause for concern. I hope collectors will be able to ask for a replacement here..

Maybe they're looking to drum up interest in the few copies of each card they actually managed to produce correctly.

Seriously, though, I didn't notice it being that bad with last year's Engrained. Maybe this is related to COVID staffing issues or something?

It seems like they used the wrong type of adhesive - that the cards may have heated up if they were in transit for too long during covid - then after they arrived at their destination and got back to room temp they re-adhered.

Maybe the medallions being properly orientated is a rare parallel, it is UD.

But seriously, I'd guess the finish they used on the wood backround doesn't react well to adhesives.
