Life After You Stopped Collecting?

I am at the same point, and the looming lock out might just tip the scale. The one thing I will keep doing is picking up the best 2 or 3 FW autos each year.
The thing that gets me is ...some of the best, kindest, most generous people I "know" are because of the hobby, BUT some of the sleaziest, greediest, dirtiest, most selfish scumbags I know are thru the hobby too. It used to be the people that kept me interested now it's the people ( at least the latter group ) that are driving me away from the hobby

I unloaded everything a few years back. I was a serious Cam Ward collector, and had a couple of nice sets. I don't regret moving a single card, even 1/1's. Why? Because there are always more cards, even if its of a different player/team/whatever.

I spend about $2-3,000/yr on cards, boxes mostly. I don't have a player collection. But do have some really sweet cards of various players. I could just drop collecting like I did mostly about ten years ago, reducing the budget to a few hundred and getting random packs (u get some good cards but it is soooo random). I missed out on a lot of cards and experiences during those days and ended up splurging a bit too much when I got back in, coming up a bit thin in the wallet. The hobby was different then, with a few more players. I may have to do that again as a "life changing event" is on the horizon and it starts with "d". :-(

Well, I am glad u are in a better place and that the hobby has helped you cope thru the bad. You have an amazing collection and a pause probably would be more benificial for you than getting a few bucks. Money is a funny thing...you'll never have a lot of it but you'll alway manage to get more.

I'm taking a long hiatus due to an incoming baby, wife losing her job, and some home repairs. It took a bit to stop looking at ebay, but hanging out at the big shows is what I miss the most.

I stopped collecting last fall after realizing that I didn't have as much control over my box breaking habits as I thought. Since then I have only opened 2/3 of a box of SPA and I don't really miss it. Now all I am going to buy every year are Leafs Cup rookies. I sold off whatever non PC cards I could, but I kept my Leafs collection pretty much intact. I still pull it out to look at every now and then and really enjoy it. I'm sure you like the sound of how much money you could make selling off your cards, but the money you save just by not buying any more cards is probably pretty substantial as well. I know that if I decide to sell off my PC I will do so 1 card at a time, starting with the ones I like the least.
