Baseball cards for Little League

I want to start selling baseball card packs at the snack bar at my son's little league field. I think this would help the kids enjoy the game more. I am not looking to personally gain anything from this. All the monies made on trading card sales would go to the Little League. Does anyone know if there is any distributers in the N.J. area that would be willing to sell cases to this little league? If there are, I can get the information from the president of the league. I gave him the idea, he likes it, we just don't know where we can get cards from that we could sell and make a profit for the league. Our plans are to begin selling them, encourage the kids to begin collecting and trading with fellow little leaguers. Once or twice a season, we could hold a "trading day" where the kids would bring their binders/boxes to the club house and sit at tables and "trade the day away". We think that this would help bring the league closer together, get the parents and kids something to get excited about.

any information would be greatly appreciated. You can either post on this thread, or send me an email (in profile) to discuss further. If you would like, I can include the Little League website so you can see that this is for them and NOT me. I want to use this opportunity to bring the younger generation into the world of COLLECTING.

thanks in advance,
Todd Miller

P.S. If I am violating any rules of H.I. please let me know.

Todd,
I did this a couple years ago. I asked fellow collectors to donate their unwanted commons to me. I made up "packs" in brown paper lunch bags. Every few I made up had an inexpensive jersey card or autograph. Enough to where it was no major loss, but where it was reasonable for a kid to get something cool. I think the packs were 5.00 and there were 100 cards in each, fewer if there was an auto or jersey.

Another idea we used:
Use some things to put on your sign in front of the packs like:

Win free Coke and Hot Dogs (put a slip of paper in a couple of the packs and let the kid redeem it for a drink and a hotdog. You wouldnt believe how excited a kid gets with cards, a coke and a hotdog all at once...its awesome)

Buy 3 get one free!

Let me know if you want to use this idea and I will start you out with some Game Used and Autos. I will send some commons and star base cards too, but most of what I have has already been donated. PM me and I can probably help more if you like.
Regards,
Tom

Thanks, that sounds like a good idea. Were all the cards from the same maker, or was it mixed? Either way, it's a start. What were the age groups that seemed to be most involved? I'm looking at anywhere from 6 through 11/12. Our local 7-eleven doesn't sell cards and the Walmarts/Kmarts around here only sell the $20. box. I don't want the kids not to get involved because mom and dad don't want to shell out 20 bucks for the kids to put them in their bike spokes. (you know, like we did when we were little  )

How can I repay any fellow collector for their donation?? I would get some pictures of the kids enjoying their cards and post them on this board if I am allowed. (I could even put HobbyInsider.net on all the "packs"???)

thanks again Tom- also, how can I get the other collectors involved?

Todd,
Just ask for donations. Collectors LOVE donating stuff for kids. You can make smaller packs than the 5.00 ones if you like, that just what we did.

Most people that donate dont want anything in return. Knowing that they helped out a little is enough of a return. I think we would love to see some pictures of the kids...I know I would.

Shoot me a PM and I will see what I can do to help you out. Lots of people I deal with in hi volume baseball. We will get something together and get the ball rolling for you.

I want to start selling baseball card packs at the snack bar at my son's little league field. I think this would help the kids enjoy the game more. I am not looking to personally gain anything from this. All the monies made on trading card sales would go to the Little League. Basically what I am asking for is this: If you have cards that you would like to get rid of, you could donate them to me (Cherry Hill Youth Athletic Association). HOFAutoColectr had suggested the idea of taking the cards and putting them in brown lunch bags.

Our plans are to begin selling them, encourage the kids to begin collecting and trading with fellow little leaguers. Once or twice a season, we could hold a "trading day" where the kids would bring their binders/boxes to the club house and sit at tables and "trade the day away". We think that this would help bring the league closer together, and give the parents and kids something to get excited about, and do together.

I want to use this opportunity to bring the younger generation into the world of COLLECTING.

Below are some of the things I would like to do with this.

~Begin selling "packs" at like 2-3 dollars each.
~Randomly insert coupons for a free hotdog and soda.
~Establishing "Trading Days" maybe 2-4 times a season.
~Help the kids establish collecting "styles", maybe their favorite player, team, division, whatever.
~Have games and give the winners more valuable cards. (or we [the president and I], can get cards made by Upper Deck that feature players in the little league.

***I also saw somewhere something about "pack attack" where kids get a free pack of cards and open them and give prizes away for the highest card number, highest no. from a series (###/###), trivia questions, raffle tickets, etc.

If you would like to assist, please let me know. I told HOFAutoColectr that once it begins I would take pictures and post them on H.I.

I think it would be a lot of fun for everyone involved.

thanks again,
Todd

You are the man. I spoke with the president of the league the other day. He is eager to get this started.

I can't thank you enough for what you are doing. Trust me, it's definitely for a great cause! I can't wait to get pictures for you. I will reimburse you for shipping costs. Just let me know, or I can get them off the packages.

Thanks Again, from me and the CHYAA. (Cherry Hill Youth Athletic Association)

PS- I did give you my address right??

Thanks, I think they will come in handy as "prizes" during the "Trading Days". I will send you my addy shortly.

Thanks again,
Todd

Thanks Ron. I received the cards yesterday. Thank you very much. That was a nice thing to do. I can't wait to get it started and see the kids enjoy the hobby.
