Hi all,

I am looking for a Young Guns list of all the players who have a YG and have played for the Leafs. I already have the Leafs YG list but looking for ALL players with a YG. So players like Matt Murray, Ryan O'rielly, etc. Does this list exist? If so can it be posted here :) Thanks!

I collected all the Young Guns that ever played for the Canucks and unfortunately I could never find a checklist like that. I had to meticulously go through each season's rosters for the last 35 seasons. Good luck!

I did the same with the NJ Devils, and have a pretty nice Excel checklist (of all RCs, not just Young Guns) if anyone was looking for that specific team. Filtering a checklist of the team pictured on the card is easy, it's the other teams during each player's career that represents the challenge.

Blah, that is what I was hoping to avoid. Do not have the time or patience for that lol.

I think you could do this in a somewhat short period of time, but you would need to be a bit experienced with excel/google sheets. Or you could search youtube for tutorials on how to do certain filters and comparisons on excel/google sheets.

The first thing I would do is find a website that tracks Leafs all-time points or goalie stats leaders. I found this one quickly on google (https://www.quanthockey.com/nhl/teams/toronto-maple-leafs-players-career-nhl-stats.html).

Next I would export the data to excel/google sheets. You could filter out some of the players by the players age and when YGs first appeared. If YGs first appeared in 1990, you could filter out everyone with a birth year of 1979 or earlier for example.

Next I would find the checklist for each year that had YGs and add that into another column in the excel/google sheet.

Then all you would have to do is learn the compare data function that would find matches from the 2 columns of names. Youtube has a ton of easy to follow tutorials that could help with this step.

I think this should work and not take too long.

Use this:

Go through each year and find Upper deck Series 1 and 2 (and Extended or whatever they may have called it). Each checklist has a breakdown by number (obviously) and player name and even better, TEAM NAME. You'll be able to find each Maple Leafs Young Guns card if you're willing to do a little work.

This is why I have always loved Cardboard Connection's checklists.

When I first started collecting Caps RC's just over 15 years ago, compiling the initial list was a struggle, and time consuming. However, it is easy to update every year as you only have to look out for players who play on the team that season.

Guy signs in the offseason? Quick search will tell you when/if he had a Young Guns RC.

I have a collection of all-time Oilers Rookie Cards - much like what you're trying to do (though mine is not young guns specific). Once I had my original list together (15 years ago I did it? Something like that?) the year-to-year is easy... just add any new players.

Like others have suggested: You'll want to get a list of all time Maple Leafs. Hockeydb would work well:

https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/display_players.php?tmi=8490

Cardboard connection does have this handy link, that shows all the checklists (up to 2022-23 Series 1) and also has "by team" checklists (there is a Maple Leafs checklist - 88 YGs... but that's just players in a Leafs uniform)

https://www.cardboardconnection.com/ultimate-upper-deck-young-guns-checklist

You'd have to do the comparison yourself. Compare the two lists, find the matches.... if you want to get "any player to have played for the Leafs YG"
