well,it's been quite some time since i posted my breaks.the hobby landscape has changed,especially for an old timer like me.but i've been swimming against the tide and staying the course on breaking what i like,no more,no less.
first up is the Presidents Choice compendium product so this is basically a four card per box product that includes a variety of cards from the Presidents Choice website.i picked up two boxes today,one was Second Edition and one was Third.
Scan is two cards short as i gave the two non Hockey cards to a young kid who liked Basketball who was with his dad and couldn't afford anything at the shop.it was a Deandre Jordan laces card and a Reggie White Mega Patch.

So,onto the proverbial poop show that is this years Upper Deck products.i'll start with my least favorite "rake over the hot coals" "are you out of your bloody mind with that price" "why are all these cards damaged" kick in the junk called Skybox Metal.to be perfectly honest i have not even considered
buying a Hobby box of it.i personally think it represents all things that have gone wrong in the hobby over the past year.but i did pick up an odd blaster here and there at Target when there wasn't a literal WWE match in front of the card section.here are the only two cards of note out of 4 or 5 blasters.

the Kaprizov is clean but the Norris has some top chipping.the white spots are dust flakes from my scanner not being used in 8 months.
Next up is Allure.i do like this years offering,not 1/1000th the quality control issues of Series 1 & 2 or Metal.i only received one mis-cut card in multiple boxes and it was a common.

Gibson & Tkachuk are #/45
Kivlenieks is just a sad story in itself
OPC Platinum,i go either way with this product depending on the design.i didn't like the OPC base design this year,especially the retro's.but y'know what,it works in the Platinum format for some reason.some of the parallels are gorgeous,some are just plain silly.Aquamarine comes to mind.you could never in a billion years link Hockey to a tropical coral reef....you just can't.

i do realize that i killed the odds on my auto hits,after seeing multiple "Update" auto's pulled in case breaks,and for that i'm grateful.i do like the auto design this year,nice unfettered space for auto,zoomed in pic and best of all was the Quality control on this product.none,i mean none of my rainbows had print lines(thus far) and that's a first in 6 years of Platinum for me.
again,a bunch of other parallels not scanned.
i stayed away from high end all year,which is unlike me,but with today's Black Friday sale at the LCS i saw SPX at $100US a box.i always liked the offerings in this product through the years,Black and Exquisite in a mid range product are always a win in my opinion.so i took a shot with three boxes from a fresh case.

I also picked up a box of OPC Platinum with those three boxes.i opened all three out in the parking lot with expectations of doing poorly and going back in for a box of Extended to soothe the sting.but my trip back into the store was for some sleeves and top loaders for this Rangers fan incredible Hat Trick!
