After figuring out if there was rookie year, game-used memorabilia like 05-06 Cup with Crosby and Ovechkin (and Mikko Koivu?!) for 15-16,... I am sad that GU memorabilia didn't make it for McDavid's and Eichel's Cup and Exquisite ARPs.

However, on the bright side, McDavid has one card in Cup with game-used memorabilia: 15-16 The Cup Limited Logos #/50.

I have been waiting for the right 3clr oil drop patch and finally timing worked out to bid on this card (I keep missing auctions due to real life and many cards have slipped away). So,... pretty thrilled when I received this piece of hockey history!

* nice it's confirmed GU on the back of the card too *

Also another card came in the mail,... I never cared for the Flames, but was fortunate enough to watch Team North America play in Toronto late last year. Johnny Hockey really stood out to me as a real talent. A lot of patience, speed, stealth and skill reminded me of Patrick Kane's play style. I guess it's my first card of his and personally liking the design of Exquisite ARPs. (edit: the Exquisite ARP Gaudreau is NOT game used; was too excited about the McD and put it on this thread too)

Nice cards Stephen. It just makes me wonder why the arp is not game used but the limited logos are. They've done this for the past few years for the top tier rookieswhich I think is sad

UD's thinking (from actual chats with UD) is that Cup RC's will always be the highest end, most sought after rookie cards. If they are game used or photoshoot, they will still be the best rookie cards. They are right. With a finite budget, they would rather add value to other cards in the product. I get their business case. I can accept this.

I doubted even for 10th year anniversary of Cup and with McDavid hype that the game used rookie materials would be used. Buying a GU rookie jersey of McD to cut up for cards supposedly was not good money spent. However, it happened and I'm pleased to own a McDavid game used rookie year card with an auto.

I'm certainly in the minority and care less about the "RC" designation. I care about eye appeal and intrinsic value. I see more value in a game used Limited Logo rookie year #/50 with a hard signed auto than a smaller window on the #/99 photoshoot ARP RC. But that's just me. Markets have spoken and I'm in a big minority. Never been able to keep my Cup ARP's #/99 because of the photoshoot issue. I guess that's why I always seem to be stuck in a time warp with 05-06 Cup Crosby/Ovy GU rookie year materials.

Hard to argue with a game-used card of the league's top young talent, and the McDavid ain't bad either.

Kidding...don't tell my buddies I made that joke. If they thought for a second I was serious or could be construed as such, they'd kill me :)

I realized I messed up with the title of the thread,... I was too focused on the "other guy". The top young talent in Gaudreau, his Exquisite ARP is not game used. I just got it on the same day as the McD Limited Logos.

That McDavid is something else, just like the player himself. Gaudreau is a heckuva talent as well. Great card Stephen!
