Hey all. I recently added this nice card to my PC:

Great card and I am very pleased to add it to my collection. However, I do have a question for you guys. If you notice on the back of the card it does not specify that this is a "Game-Used" Stick, just a stick. Do any of you have other Lumbergraphs and do they all just say stick. Do you think this is from a signed GU piece? Well, you get my drift. Any help would be appreciated and here is a scan of the back so you can see what I am talking about:

ITG is pretty thorough when it comes to labeling their cards as "game used," so my thought is that it's not game used unless the card specifically states it. Sweet card anyway! :o

Hopefully, Dr. Price will see this thread and comments since he does peruse HI.

Thanks for the reply Jason and I suspect you are right. It does look like a "period" piece though. Perhaps a 40's or 50's stick but no documentation that it was game used... BTW, How about throwing a Rangers card in your sig? We need all the good Karma we can get.;)

There is also the possibility that this was a stick signed by the team/multiple players, since that was common practice back in the day. The stick may in fact be game used by one of the signees, but not necessarily used by the player on the card. Rather than create any confusion about "who" used the stick, perhaps ITG just went with a more general description?

Couldn't have said it better.

That sounds pretty reasonable. No sense in mucking up/confusing the description with something like "Chuck Rayner's autograph signed to a piece of Bun Cook's stick" :)

I don't think Rayner and Cook played together at all...I just like saying Bun Cook's name whenever I can.

Maybe ITG was able to confirm the autograph was authentic but couldn't find out for sure if the stick was game-used, rather than misrepresent the piece they added that COA. Curious to see what some of the other Lumbergraph cards say!

Thnaks for the replies guys. You make some great points. I would love to see the back of a couple of other examples. Mike

PS - I think Matt needs some therapy. Perhaps an intervention is in order....:p

Despite the therapy crack, I'll direct rectanglez to this thread...he's got a few Lumbergraphs he might be able to help the thread with. :p

Feel free to Crack back anytime you like. I am a prety easy target. Please do ask rectanglez to post some pics. Some other examples would be great to see. Thanks for the effort.

Let me respond to his board.

Lumbergraphs are taken from both game-used and non-game-used sticks.

In the 40's 50's and 60's many teams had players sign sticks at the end of the year before the players went to their summer jobs.

Sometimes the teams laid down the last set of players sticks and sometimes they laid down store model sticks or mini sticks for the players to sign.

The Lumbergraph card is all about the autograph so we use common text on the backs.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for taking the time to reply to the thread. It does clear things up to a degree. Agreed that the card is about the 'graph, but I was always under the assumption that all of the memorabilia ITG used was Game-Used. Part of the allure of this set to me was a piece of GU Memorabilia signed by the player. Lesson learned and in the future I will bid accordingly if other examples pop up. Mike
