I have about 6-8 MacKinnon rookie year cards - they have since nose-dived and I have been hanging onto them in case he turns around - I see flashes of greatness in his gameplay...but does anyone think his stuff will genuinely rebound?

Tough. Team really sucks but he's a good player. I think you should hold them. Can't go much lower so only up from here!

Will they return to his rookie year value? Nope.

However, will he rebound? I think so. He needs a better supporting cast and I think he has still has a very bright future ahead of him. I say keep holding onto them.

He is a PC player so mine aren't going anywhere :)

If he gets some help in Colorado and has some good years I'm sure he can rebound but I agree, he won't likely reach his rookie year pricing again unless he goes on a SERIOUS tear.

And that's fine by me as I'm happy picking up nice stuff for my collection on the cheap. I have scored hard-signed, game worn patch autos for around $35 USD. Keep 'em coming UD! As a Nova Scotian who was priced out of collecting Crosby cards from day one it's nice that I can collect MacKinnon affordably.

He's 21...I'd hold. Avs have nowhere to go but up. He looked pretty good playing for Team Canada at the WHC.

I'd hold. Colorado is in a rebuild and should be a talented young team in a few years with MacKinnon as the cornerstone of the franchise.

The success of the player is tied to the success of the team. I agree with those above, once Colorado does good, his cards should rebound...that is if he is still with the team. But anyhow, if the team he is on does good, his value should start to turn up for the better.

It is funny how you can see this trend in the hobby year by year...Roy & Brodeur are top notch goalies, but if you track their bad years, their cards are lower than their good years. In the end when they retire, they should eventually level off, but they don't. Go figure. But the RC's do always get the love.

I think that the window on him as a potentially high-end card is closing. It's still open, but he's already been overtaken on-ice and in the market by guys like Draisaitl.

Crosby. Young Guns debuted at $150, spiked to $200, then drifted down to $100 for quite a while before recovering.

One example.

Stamkos everything tanked the first year when he didn't meet the hype then burst back up the a year or so later

Pacman

Quincy I remember $100 Crosby young guns. Bought a few wish I'd held them

I've been thinking the same thing, throwing down around $500 or so for his singles to hold. I was a lame who sold multiple Stamkos RC Autos and patches for peanuts...I think him and Rantanen have a bright future together...

If you bought in HIGH on Mac you are probably out of luck on those. However, stock in him is low right now, with a very high potential ceiling.

If you bought high, hope he rises and sell (as your only going to lose right now)
If you bought low you will be flush, with potential to flip it into something greater then you bought in/traded for

I had MAC NT RPA /99. Held a bit too long. Could have gotten a few thousand for it at the time, ended up getting $800 (but cant complain as I got it in a $20 GB).

Was this post from 2009, 2011 or the 2013 season. I get those "rebuild (2009) talented (2011) and young team (2013)" posts confused.

I'd still hold until he finds a way out of Colorado, which judging by Colorado's current leadership, should be no longer than two years from now.

HA! That was great. So what you're saying is Sakic is the complete opposite end of the spectrum from player to hockey executive?

Historically, and I'm talking about since hockey card collecting took off in 1990, the values of high dollar players that slide never recover. Once the bloom is off the rose it stays off.
