The theme for this mail post is definitely Tim Thomas. I've made some huge progress there, and also added some important cards for other player collections too.

04-05 Finnish Cardset Tim Thomas (47!!!), Steve Martins
04-05 Finnish Cardset Stars of the Game Tim Thomas (48!!!)
03-04 Pacific Prism Gold Sergei Samsonov (/425)
The first three cards came in from a guy I traded with in Finland, who helped me pick up most of the cards I needed from the new Finnish cardset. Obviously, the Tim Thomas cards were very important. Risto Kemppainen has been very helpful to me and send me these three cards free. In exchange I told him I'd look out for cards from his wantlist. I'll be posting his wantlist on here, in a longer hobby discussion style post that I'll make later on this week, to see if anyone can help me find anything for him.

The Samsonov came from a trade with a guy off of ebay, and is just one more off the list of the five thousand Pacific parallels I still need for my player collections.

01-02 BAP Memorabilia Ruby Scott Neidermayer (/200), Brian Sutherby (/200)
03-04 SP Game Used Jason Spezza
00-01 SP Authentic Matt Pettinger RC (/900)
03-04 Topps Pristine Matthew Lombardi RC (/1199)
01-02 Pacific Heads Up Quad Jersey (side 1) Rich Parent, Darius Kasparitis
All of these except for the jersey card are from Renee Nelson (Sparkly) from here and Beckett. Renee's a great trader and her and I have fairly similar tastes in collecting - a lot of players, some of them well known and some of them not so well known. We were able to help each other a bit. The Pettinger is for my best-RC collection, and the Spezza actually filled out my card sheet of 03-04 SPGU. The rest are available for trade. Thanks, Renee!

The jersey card is an addition to my Rich Parent colleciton. Yes, I realize that Parent would rank in the list of the top 5 players who didn't deserve a jersey card, but oh well. I won this one from ebay because the Parent is a two-color, and that was important to me. The Kasparitis swatch actually has a yellow thread sticking out, and the other two sides (white and yellow) are pictured below.

01-02 Pacific Heads Up Quad Jersey (side 2) Alexei Kovalev, Michal Roszival
98-99 Upper Deck Gold Reserve Mike Rucinski RC
04-05 Swedish Cardset Mikko Kuparinen, Nils Ekman
04-05 Swedish Cardset Gold Parallel Nils Ekman
04-05 Swedish Alfa Stars Nils Ekman
Again, there's the other side of the Pens quad jersey I got from ebay.

The other cards came from Patrik (sortguld) who I have dealt with before, and I'm glad to see joined up on HI just recently. Patrik's been very helpful and again came through to help my collections. The Ekman and Kuparinen cards are for my player collections, and the Rucinski is for the best-RC collection. I still need to locate the Kuparinen parallel, and there's a slew of Ekman cards from the rather obscure Alfa Stars set that I need - a parallel out of 100, and two versions of his autograph redemption card, out of 200 and out of 50. Yuck. Thanks for the trade, Patrik!

04-05 Upper Deck HG Glossy Gold Tyler Arnason (1/5) (MOJO-ISH)
Here's a fun one! Won it on ebay, totally uncontested, for 99 cents plus shipping. It's a tie for the second rarest card I own, and it's available for trade. Chances are, though, I'll hold it for a few years and then try to re-sell it to a market that has been sufficiently dried-up of this year's UD parallels.

00-01 Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins Rich Parent
01-02 Grand Rapids Griffins Steve Martins
02-03 Providence Bruins Tim Thomas (49!!!)
03-04 Providence Bruins Tim Thomas (50!!!)
Lots of minor league cards for my player collections! These came from a guy I met on ebay, Bill Martin, who collects former U of M players. I sent him along more than value for these but was happy to, as he was very helpful in finding these for me and breaking his new Providence Bruins sets to send me the Thomas cards. I hit 50, but I wasn't done there...

03-04 San Antonio Rampage Kristian Kudroc, Ian Herbers
02-03 Hartford Wolf Pack Nils Ekman
02-03 Springfield Falcons Martin Cibak
One more batch of minor league cards of players I collect, this one coming from Lynn Vars on the HockeyDB board. I'll be nice and say that it wasn't my most pleasant purchasing experience, and that the packaging was "iffy" at best. Still, the cards arrived alright. As for the cards themselves, it looks like I got a bonus on the Herbers card, as I'm pretty sure that Kudroc managed to get his face in the picture. The Cibak is the second-to-last card I need from that Springfield set, with only Zac Bierk remaining. And as for the Ekman? I hate oversized cards!

04-05 Finnish Cardset Signature Tim Thomas (51!!!)
03-04 Pacific Quest for the Cup Calder Contenders Eric Staal
01-02 Fleer Greats of the Game Jersey Dino Ciccarelli
Finally, the big one!

First, the Ciccarelli jersey came in trade from Jon (X-Head). Thanks a lot! It's available for trade, as I was just looking for something back so I could help him with his 02-03 POH Historical Swatches jersey set.

The rest came from Sauli (BlindThomen). The Staal is available for trade and was just a throw-in to even out the deal, but of course, the Thomas autograph is the important one. Sauli's been very helpful to me now on two occasions, and helped me get what could have become a very difficult Thomas card to acquire. Thank you so much, once again, for helping me with that!

So, where does the Tim Thomas collection stand now? I need TWO cards to complete the collection! What are they? Both from 02-03 BAP sets - first, his Parkhurst gold parallel out of 10. One of those cards that will show up on ebay eventually, and could cost anywhere from a couple bucks to a small fortune to acquire. I've got a bunch of BAP #/10 cards I'd love to trade for it, even sending two-or-three for one if necessary, should it show up. The last card, of course, is the All-Star Edition 1/1, which at last check, was owned by Action Coin & Card. They wanted $150 the last time they put it on ebay, and as expected there were no takers. I'm not sure what I'll do about trying to get this card, to be honest, but I don't think I'm in the position to make what they would consider a reasonable offer at this point.

But, knowing that the combined print run of the cards I have left to get is ELEVEN is fairly exciting - I'm almost done, but the most difficult tasks are still on the horizon.

News and notes:

**Looks like I've had two deals go bad in the past couple months. My policy for deals that don't come through, after I've paid/traded, is to keep the deal on my "deals made" list until I can acquire the same cards. Once I've got the cards I needed, I'll take them off the list.

**The Weekes collection is still stalled, but I've got a couple of leads now and might be able to pick a card or two up by the next time I post. Overall, though, I don't have much in the works in terms of card deals, so it may be two or three weeks before I've got enough for another mail post.

**I've also got plans to post two new threads in the coming week or so. One is about a hockey-card related project I did for school, and the other is just random thoughts and questions about the hobby, that I'll hope to throw out for discussion.

Thanks everyone!

Nice cards Andy! Did you know that Tim Thomas made a new record in Finnish elite league with 10 shutouts in one season (now he has 12)?
