Quite a simple poll really.

I want to limit this to the 2 big whigs instead of opening up the floor to the more minor, independant companies (We'll have that debate eventually).

So having said that, out of the 2 industry giants, which is your favourite and WHY?

Although I love characters and titles from both companies I will give the slight edge to Marvel simply because I prefer how the stories (for the most part) take place in real cities with real backgrounds. DC is a little too fictional for me (imagine that eh? A comic fan saying a comic is too fictional?) Marvel has more of a 'real life' feel and sense whereas DC relies heavily on alternate universes, realities, etc.

At the end of the day, I like how Marvel has essentially tried to fuse its characters into everyday settings. I also find many of the DC stories and characters to be too deeply rooted in fantasy.

So thats my take. Although both companies have great work, I'd lean slightly towards Marvel.

Marvel for me.

I think Marvel has the more interesting characters and their stories are a little less PG. A lot of the DC characters are starting to show their age, they need to be modernized. Marvel characters seem a little more realistic as most of the title happen in real cities and usually dealing with human people (normal timeline with current presidents etc..). Dc happens in made up cities and most of the characters are very unrealistic. DC are getting better mainly thnaks to Geoff Johns.

I second the "real life" feel of Marvel coupled with the fact that I basically grew up on the X-Men. I also love how there seems to be an overall grittier, real feel to Marvel.

Marvel, but only because the majority of the titles I had on my pull list consisted of various X-Men/Wolverine/F4 titles, though I did pick up a couple of Batman titles regularly. The settings never really bothered me enough to give the nod for that reason alone. Marvel simply had characters, teams, and villains I was more interested in reading.

While DC has provided legends like Superman and Batman, Marvel has given me some of my all time favourites like The Hulk, Spiderman and Captain America. I bought Marvel Comics more as a kid than I did DC. Just more memorable for me, I suppose.

Marvel. Consistently good titles and stories (back when I collected and read at least). Aside from Batman not too much appealed to me from DC except my favorite title back then Vigilante.

I used to be quite the Marvel Zombie, but now I'm picking up more DC titles than Marvel, but if you count quarterlies and such, it's awfully close.

I like Marvel characters more, but the ones I like are either dead, unused or hidden behind editorial issues. Then again, DC had killed off two of my favourite characters but just brought them back....

I'm going to have to keep pondering this one.

DC has provided some of the most iconic characters in comicdom. Marvel does the same, but makes them human and accessible at the same time. I can't quite grok Kal-El's troubles as the Last Son of Krypton, Clark Kent, and Superman. I can very easily wrap my head around Peter Parker trying to balance rent, groceries, girlfriend, J. Jonah Jameson and still find time to take down Mysterio.

Marvel.

Was always a big blue boyscout fan, and even got back into it a bit with the Byrne revamp of many years ago, and I didnt even mind the Brandon Routh movie. Only read them a bit as a kid but for some reason I thought it would be neat to compile a little collection for if I had a son. So when he is ready, he has every Superman book from 1979 to 1999 to thumb through. Plus as a parent of a 3 yr old who sleeps with a Batman mask on, I voted for DC.
