Ok this is a little sensitive, but Michael Jackson is being honored in a baseball product with specially made insert cards to commemorate his performance at the Super Bowl. Now baseball cards are usually directed towards kids and unless you live in a rock or ignore the media we know Jackson's accusations against him many moons ago. Is this a little toon soon, I really did not give him a pass just because he is dead.

From UD's facebook page:

Michael Jackson Icons short-print Cards

Arrival Date: August 2009

Upper Deck Brings the Immortal Michael Jackson to the Masses with the Most Newsworthy Cards of 2009

Inside its upcoming 2009 UDx Baseball release, Upper Deck will introduce limited-edition cards honoring the iconic music legend

Carlsbad, CA (July 15, 2009) – On June 25, 2009, the world was shocked to hear that Michael Jackson had suddenly passed away. In honor of one of the world’s most prolific performers, The Upper Deck Company is releasing a quartet of short-printed, illustrated insert cards honoring Michael Jackson’s legendary 1993 halftime performance at Football’s biggest game.

Pretty much.... His records are reaching records in sales, merch, etc... all UD is doing is saying hey the economy sucks, but people are buying the dead guys stuff so lets make some cash too!... If the set is geared towards kids young teens, all their trying to do is shift it into another market for a bit of an older crowd as well

He's being honored for his SuperBowl performance in a baseball product? Nothing is shocking anymore. I guess baseball must sell a lot better than football, so more money to be made. Pathetic that it is happening at all. However, people will by it, so don't blame Upper Deck, blame the consumer.

Actually I think it's the opposite. UD has a huge disadvantage in Baseball because of the RC situation so they use these Gimmick cards to help sales. Topps does as well in their non-Bowman releases....

I love all that junk they throw into baseball, makes it far more interesting to me than the bland repetitive stuff in hockey.
