I obviously dont condone what he did...............but

here is where I have a problem.

If he goes to jail and serves a year to 18 months, what gives Roger Godell the right to say he cant play football again, a conduct policy? He has been/will be punished by the federal legal system. Should he not be allowed to be employed in probably the only field he has a skill in. I guess working in Law Enforcement my entire career and seeing judges say, I hope you come out better than you went in and then society will give you another chance......Is this not the same thing.

If Vick was a cook and got arrested for dog fighting should he never be allowed to be a cook again if its is his only skill??

Why? So he doesn't bring the negative attention to the league or a bunch of PETA and SPCA picketers at every game. The NFL is a private industry. It can pick and choose who plays. Imagine if you got busted for smoking pot and you went to jail for a day. Your company could fire you if it wanted to. You don't have the right to return because you already did your time. It's the company's choice and they can do what they like. Just like the NFL will. The current commissioner has said time and time again that playing in the NFL is a privilege and not a right. He said it about Pac-Man, Tank Johnson, and Chris Henry. It's their yard, and if they don't want you to play...you won't.

In your example, Vick could still cook. Just not for the restaurant that he was with before it happened. If they didn't condone what he did or want the negative attention they don't have to let him come back and cook there. He could cook elsewhere....like the CFL where the NFL cons go to play. Maybe the Arena League as well.

Although, my money's on Vick playing for the Raiders in 2009.

arent PETA and the SPCA at every game anyway??

I have a feeling he will become an "advocate for animal rights", throw some cash at a few groups and try to make nice. Wonder if the prison he is going to trains dogs--for the handicapped and such?

To get back to the sentence, I heard he is trying to set up a meeting with the commissioner to see if any suspension could run concurrent with his prison sentence.

Does anyone else think he took the deal because the others were going to roll over on him for their lesser sentence and might even say damaging things that arent true. No doubt he was heavily involved, but criminals give more and more info to reduce their sentences even if its not true. I just wonder....

I agree with Vick playing for the Raiders in 09. Al Davis would hire Charles Manson if he could run a 4.3 40.

If the NFL suspends him for two years and Vick's in jail that whole time, everyone will call foul. How can you suspend someone when they aren't elligible to begin with. That's like me being suspended from high school for the next 30 years. Doesn't bother me....I graduated back in '92.

You think PETA & the SPCA are at games now? Wait till you see the reinforcements they gather if Vick suits up again. Not to mention the boycott threats to any sponsors of the team that signs him....etc, etc. No matter how much money he offers, he won't be able to buy himself out of this hole for a looooong time. And I don't see anyone believing a word that comes out of his mouth if he tries to be some kind of animal rights spokesman after signing a confession to brutally abusing, killing and running a dog fighting ring.

That's like letting Charles Manson become a spokesman for a Pro-Life advocacy group.

And I definitely believe Vick caved because the others were going to roll on him. The Feds said they had more evidence and the charges would increase if he didn't plead guilty. Vick really had no choice. And since he's copping the plea with nothing to really offer in return, I'd be surprised if he gets anything less than 2 years. Usually when you cop a plea it's because you have something to offer. Kind of like a trade. But Vick has nothing in his pocket that the Feds even need.

I dont know if anyone saw it, but when he was drafted, a reporter asked him what are three things people dont know about mike vick, and what is the first thing he says..."I love animals". He is a sick individual and I hope he gets three years in jail and lifetime ban from the NFL.

I think if he would roll over on some other dog fighters, or rings, you never know there might be more athletes involved in this. I cant see him never talking about this in front of anyone. We are going to learn alot more of what Vick knows.

Also and I may be wrong, you get "good time" in fed cases. You get 1 year and serve 9 months and so on.
