FINALLY!!!! Why is this *** still allowed to be a broadcaster? Another insensitive comment, this time against women. I just don't get why national hockey broadcasts take so long to get of these "old school" guys. Milbury was a crappy coach and GM and all he did was whine and complain during the Montreal - Flyers series. At least the final game was watchable from a broadcasting standpoint on Friday. It took them forever to get rid of Don Cherry who was able to say anything because he was well...Don Cherry. If the sport wants to move forward with a broad based audience, these type of folks all need to go.

And don't get me started on Pierre McGuire. He may not be controversial...but was so horrible as an announcer that I would need to mute the sound. Thankfully, NBC moved him to mostly the late games so I don't know if he is still broadcasting or not.

There is a lot of good talent out there- male and female that can help the game keep evolving in a positive direction.

I am no Mike Millbury fan, but really what did he say that was insensitive to women, or even disparaging. My wife & I both listened to what he said a few times, and there was nothing. I think people wanted him out, and they went with anything they could to do it.

His comments were no where near as insensitive or disparaging as JR's comments were.

My wife said the same thing and had some other words for those offended by this which I cannot post or Jeremy will hulksuspendsmashme. BUT, Milbury is and always has been a complete D-bag who should have been run out of hockey and the media ages ago, so, good riddance Mike.

No but it's probably the straw the broke the camel's back. I had a hard time understanding what Milbury offered in terms of quality analysis... or for that matter to the game of hockey for the last twenty years - other than being known to be an idiot as a GM and making his antequated views on hockey known on public airwaves...

Kate Scott, AJ Mleczko, Kendall Coyne Schofield, Kathryn Tappen and Jennifer Botterill all met NBC's threshold to do color commentary and/or play-by-play. In replacing Milbury (who has decided to step away for the remainder of the playoffs), NBC has a prime opportunity to do something fresh and innovative to help grow the sport and move it forward. Out of all the franchises, I believe there is only one regular female commentator- Cassie Capmbell Pascal in Calgary. All those positions (around 80 plus) with only one female and no commentators of color that I am aware of. Is this 1980 or 2020?
Leah Hextall is ready as well. How about someone like Jackie Redmond, she is sharp, passionate, and extremely knowledgeable. Have someone like her start out on the color commentary maybe.
Kevin Weekes is awesome! I love him on the NHL channel. Maybe he wants to stick in the studio, but he is fun to watch and listen to. The league can't just drone on about diversity with no real change. I am waiting for PK to retire because he will be fun as well!
The line of what is acceptable is different now then 10-20 years ago and he (and Roenick) either needed to evolve or be held accountable. And c'mon- there was no one else out there who could do a better job of announcing?

At least you-all didn't have to hear the All-Aboard-The-Dallas-Stars-Fan-Train comments from the Flames/Stars series. Louie DeBrusk is THE SINGLE WORSE colour guy out there, and Jim Hughson is the worse play-by-play. I was SO SICK of them sucking on Dallas' ...areas... while the series wore on. I know Calgary didn't play well, but come on. They're supposed to be imparital!

I work in a world of correctness. It’s simple, Milbury crossed the line. Adios pandejo. Full stop
What line? As noted by others above, what exactly was this vile, insulting comment he made? And I'm asking just about this particular event, not his well known, morinic past comments.

I agree on DeBrusk, but Hughson is working the Toronto based games.

Dave.

For suggesting that women might be a distraction to players living in the bubble. I live in a city with two lake beaches at either end of it. I've driven by and checked out the distractions. Sorry for being a human male.

Along the same lines, I'm tired of Rod Brind'Amour being called Rod the Bod. He should be appreciated for his hockey talent and coaching skills and not for his killer abs and toned, fit body. Where's the outrage?

Dave.

If "diversity" means listening to sub par talent in lieu of other sub par talent then have at it I guess.

I believe TSN or Sportsnet did a NHL game broadcast with an all female broadcasting crew either this year or last.

I've read this over and over again and I have the same interpretation. Instead of jumping to conclusions, can you maybe explain your point again?

As a male, I am comfortable saying a lot of men are pigs, and this is not something new in sports, especially hockey. It starts in junior hockey with the “puck bunny” references (not that I agree with that designation but it’s a fact). Hell, how many professional sports teams have the players and sometimes coaches stay in a hotel during the playoffs even when they are the home team? They don’t want the wives, girlfriends, boyfriends, kids, whatever being a distraction. Everyone knows it, so to say it is somehow vile and worthy of losing your job is a massive stretch. If he said “Good thing there’s no puck bunnies or whores allowed in the bubble”, punt him in to retirement. I’ve asked several women, including my mom, wife, sister, super angry liberal Bernie fan cousin, and they all said pretty much the same thing, “I don’t find what he said the least bit offensive, this cancel culture is out of control.”

Some of the NBC broadcasts in the states have been downright brutal to listen to, especially when you have Kendall Coyne-Schofield partnered with Pierre McGuire. When you are severely monotone and can’t put together a coherent sentence or get the players name right, and we have to listen to Pierre babble his way through explaining what she just said, she probably shouldn’t be on a national TV broadcast yet. I’m all for diversity in sports and media, but don’t force it to the point where my wife tells me to mute the TV because she can’t stand to listen to them talk. It pains me to say it because Kendall is a national treasure here.

If NBC was smart, they would try to convince Kathryn Tappen to be a color analyst or announcer, she is better then pretty much all of the men in the industry right now. And for the record, when we are lucky enough to get a game here in the states with Cassie Campbell, she does an awesome job.
